Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: May 17th

Tonight’s Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks slate features 15 games with, St. Louis (6.3), Los Angeles Dodgers (5.4), Texas (5.3), and Los Angeles Angels (5.3) , holding the best projected team totals. With a handful of high-priced pitchers available, finding value will be imperative for success. We’ll be aiming to highlight MLB DFS picks from the perspective of batted ball data, batter splits, and line movement.

MLB DFS Standout Picks: Batted Ball Stats

Anthony Rendon – DK $4700, FD $4100

Anthony Rendon has been hitting the ball extremely well of late, and has actually seen a price decrease, from where he was earlier in the month. In the last 15 days, his batted ball distance is up 43 feet, his exit velocity is up 4 MPH, and his hard hit percentage is up 22%, over his yearly averages. These are massive increases and given the fact that his price isn’t reflective of that, it would lead me to believe that there is value to be had with Rendon.

Enrique Hernandez – DK $3800, FD $2700

The Dodgers hold one of the highest team totals on the slate tonight, and Enrique Hernandez is one of the best, “Buy Low” candidates on the slate. Hernandez has failed to reach value in most of his recent games, however, his batted ball stats may tell a different story. In the last 15 days, his distance is up 14 feet, his exit velocity is up 2 MPH, and his hard hit percentage is up 11%, over his yearly averages. Now couple this information with the fact that he was priced as high as $4700, last month. I would expect positive regression, at a cheap price, for Hernandez in the near future.

Batter Splits

Mark Canha – DK $3600, FD $2300

Mark Canha will draw an advantageous matchup tonight, as the faces lefty, Daniel Norris. Canha is much better against left-handed pitching, with a .361 wOBA split (.048 better than when facing a righty) and a .269 ISO split (.121 better than when facing a righty). If he’s batting 6th or better, he’s worth considering tonight.

Line Movement

Oakland will take on the Tigers, in Detroit tonight, in a game in which the A’s opened as -145 favorites. Since opening, they have been bet out to where they now sit at, -172. In addition to the movement on the side, the total has also seen some action. The game total opened 8.5 (-110) and now sits at 9 (+105). This may be something to watch as the day continues. If it continues to move in the same direction, a Oakland stack would be very appealing, as they’re underpriced on both DraftKings and FanDuel.

Stolen Base Upside

Jose Ramirez – DK $4300, FD $3800

Jose Ramirez and the Cleveland base runners will have an advantageous matchup tonight, as they face the righty, Dylan Bundy. Bundy allowed 17 stolen bases last season (11th most in baseball), over the course of 171.2 innings. He’s done better holding runners on so far this season, however, Ramirez has stolen 10 bases this year, the fifth most in all of baseball.

Trea Turner – DK $4600, FD $4100

There is a chance that Trea Turner will make his return for Washington tonight and if he does, he’ll have an advantage on the base paths. Turner will face the lefty, Cole Hamels, who allowed 19 stolen bases (6th most in baseball), over the course of 190.2 innings, last season. Like Bundy, his numbers are a bit improved, however Turner is one of the best base runners in all of baseball. In just 14 at bats this season, Turner recorded four stolen bases.
