NASCAR DFS Pit Stop: Monster Energy NASCAR All-Star Race – From Charlotte
By Matt Vecchio
Welcome to NASCAR DFS Pit Stop for Saturday night’s Monster Energy All Star race from Charlotte Motor Speedway! This race may have zero points available for the drivers but for us in the world of fantasy sports there are plenty of points available.
Kevin Harvick is the defending winner of this race that pays $1 million to the winner. There will be 4 stages as opposed the usual 3 stages with lengths of 30 laps, 20 laps, 20 laps and 15 laps. NASCAR overtime rules are in effect for all of the stages if necessary and there are no mandatory pit strategy rules. NASCAR is also trying out components being considered for the 2021 Gen 7 Cup in Saturday night’s race including changes to the splitter and the radiator air duct. Also, with only 19 cars in this race place differential points are not going to be as vital, finishing position will be more important than it usually is.
NASCAR DFS – Leaders of the Pack
Kevin Harvick ($9,800)
Qualifying Position: 3rd
The reigning champion in this race is fast here in Charlotte again this week. Harvick had the 6th fastest one lap time to go along with the 3rd best 10-lap average in final practice on Friday. Kevin also has the most, unique we’ll call it, car this week. He is sporting a car for the “millennial” viewers on Saturday ( you can see a picture of it back on slide 1)
Joey Logano ($9,300)
Qualifying Position: 10th
Logano was 4th in final practice single lap times, and had the 2nd fastest 10 lap average on Friday. The reigning cup series champion won this race back in 2016, his only win in this race but with how fast he looked Friday, Logano has a very good chance to win tonight.
Other Options: Kyle Busch ($10,500), Chase Elliott ($10,100)
NASCAR DFS – Middle of the Pack
Kurt Busch ($8,700)
Qualifying Position: 15th
Busch qualified in the last position of the current qualified drivers. Even though he only ran the 14th best practice lap, Busch did manage an 8th best 10-lap average speed which bodes well for him during the long runs. I don’t if Kurt can win this race, but he will be hanging around.
Ryan Blaney ($8,100)
Qualifying Position: 9th
Like his Penske teammate, Blaney’s car looks incredibly fast and it could easily be Team Penske finishing 1-2 tonight. Blaney has the 2nd best one lap time Friday as well as the top 10-lap average time. During the last few races Blaney has not had good finishes, but maybe this is the kind of race Blaney needs to get going again.
Other Options : Denny Hamlin ($8,400)
NASCAR DFS – Back of the Pack
Jimmie Johnson ($6,500)
Qualifying Position: 8th
With the soft pricing, you won’t need to take too many drivers in this price tier, most likely 2 at the most. Johnson is one of the better drivers in this price tier, especially with his plethora of victories (4 total, most of any driver in history). Jimmie wasn’t one of the fastest cars in practice, but with so few cars in the field, Jimmie’s experience and past history here could be enough to get him a great finish.
Austin Dillon ($5,800)
Qualifying Position: 4th
Dillon and the #3 RCR Chevy was fast in practice, and rewarded his team with the top lap time for the final practice session. One thing that has me unsure of rostering Dillon is his high qualifying spot, but for GPP’s he is a lock considering his speed and the fact he will most likely be low owned.
NASCAR DFS – Monster Energy Open Picks
Daniel Suarez ($6,900)
Monster Energy Open Qualifying Position: 4th

Suarez has been one of the hottest drivers with 3 straight top-15’s, and 8 straight top 20’s. I think the next driver I am going to talk about wins the race, but Suarez will definitely be in the mix.
Alex Bowman ($6,300)
Monster Energy Open Qualifying Position: 6th
Bowman has 3 straight 2nd place finishes and is my pick to win this race and transfer into the All Star race. If for some reason he doesn’t finish in the top 3, he will most likely get the fan vote.
Ty Dillon ($6,100)
Monster Energy Open Qualifying Position: 14th
It will take a lot of work for Austin’s little brother to get up into a transfer position, but he has speed, and has been a force floating around the top-10 most of the race, but inevitably falls back. Dillon is driving against a bunch of guys on the same level as him and I think he could get a top 3.
