Preakness Stakes 2019: Start time, TV channel, live stream and more
By Staff
Even without the top two Kentucky Derby finishers in the running for the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes are still being run today.
If you’re finding it a hard time to care about the Preakness Stakes this year, you’re not alone. Both of the top finishers from the Kentucky Derby are out of the running, which means we will not have a Triple Crown attempt this racing season.
Maximum Security was infamously disqualified at the Derby, which dashed Triple Crown hopes almost as soon as they’d arose. The same can be said for Country House, albeit under different circumstances.
Country House was the named the winner of the Kentucky Derby after Maximum Security’s disqualification, but the horse will not be running in the Preakness. An illness is what will be keeping the horse out of action, which means any and all Triple Crown hopes have been snuffed out.
That doesn’t mean the Preakness Stakes won’t be happening this year. Whether or not a Triple Crown threat looms is beside the point. Bettors will still be looking to hit it big with any of the horses still in the running.
