Mississippi State football: First-look 2019 depth chart projections
By Ethan Lee
Looking at the Mississippi State depth chart and how Joe Moorhead’s roster will be able to compete in the SEC this season.
Joe Moorhead finally has a taste for what life in the SEC is like. The Mississippi State Bulldogs went 8-5 in Moorhead’s first year as the head coach of the Mississippi State football team and four of those five losses occurred as Moorhead’s offense failed to score more than 7 points.
Despite having what was arguably the best defense in the country, the Bulldogs lost five games as they sputtered on offense under the guidance of a head coach who has been regarded as something of an offensive mastermind.
It’s safe to assume that Moorhead now knows how slim his margin for error is in Starkville.
He can’t just talk about championships at this level and then rely solely on a dominant defense. While that strategy might work against inferior opponents, as was evident this past season, the Bulldogs will come up short against tougher competition if they don’t also have a competent offense.
And so, as the Mississippi State Bulldogs move into year two of the Joe Moorhead era of Mississippi State football, it’s likely that fans will see that the roster will be shaped a bit differently as this team adjusts more to what Moorhead intends it to be long-term.
Here’s what the depth chart might look like in 2019 as Moorhead continues to shape this program in his image.
