Rey Mysterio reportedly injured during WWE Money in the Bank
WWE Superstar and United States Champion Rey Mysterio is reportedly dealing with a separated shoulder following his match at Money in the Bank.
After being booked to defeat Samoa Joe in last night’s Money in the Bank PPV in under two minutes, word is going around that Monday Night Raw Superstar and newly-crowned United States Champion Rey Mysterio sustained an injury during the match. Mike Johnson from PWInsider reported on Monday that the belief is that Mysterio did indeed suffer an injury, although the severity of it is yet to be determined.
“The belief among those we’ve heard from is that new WWE United States Champion Rey Mysterio suffered what is believed to be a separated shoulder last night at Money in the Bank,” Johnson stated.
Because of these circumstances, it’s unknown at this time whether or not Mysterio will be forced to relinquished the United States championship. The 44-year-old luchador has had many injuries in the past that have forced him to take time off. If reports turn out to be true, we’ll have to wait and see whether Mysterio’s injury is of the long- or short-term nature and whether he’s able to continue his ongoing storyline with Joe.
Mysterio is now a Grand Slam Champion, having won the United States title for the first time on Sunday night. It also appears that his story with Joe is unfinished, given the post-match attack by Joe and the tension building between Joe and Mysterio’s son, Dominic.
WWE has yet to confirm or deny Mysterio’s injury status. Mysterio was not at Raw on Monday night.
