AEW Double or Nothing preview: The Young Bucks vs. The Lucha Bros
By Matt Black
AEW Double or Nothing is this Saturday, May 25. Here’s all you need to know as the Young Bucks defend their AAA Tag Team Championship against Rey Fenix and Pentagon Jr.
Let’s face it: until All Elite Wrestling’s first show happens, we don’t really know for sure what to expect from the company. Sure, we can look at the blueprint that All In laid forth to get a good idea, but no one can be 100 percent certain on what we can expect until the company puts on its first show on Saturday night, Double or Nothing, in Las Vegas. But if we can say anything is for certain with AEW, it’s that their tag team division will be a primary focus on Saturday and going forward into the future.
The Young Bucks, Matt and Nick Jackson, have been very vocal in letting the world know just how important tag team wrestling will be in All Elite Wrestling. The tag team division for AEW is absolutely stacked, from teams like So Cal Uncensored to the Best Friends to the newly signed Angelico and Jack Evans, just to name a few.

But surprisingly enough, none of those teams will step into the ring with the Young Bucks this Saturday night. Instead, they will face arguably one of the best tag teams in the world in Rey Fenix and Pentagon Jr., collectively known as the Lucha Bros.
These two tag team specialists have pretty much wrestled everywhere in the last calendar year including Lucha Underground, IMPACT Wrestling, AAA and more. The two even wrestled at All In last September but in separate matches. This match was made official back at the AEW Ticket Rally in February, in the shadows of the MGM Grand, as the Lucha Bros took the stage to confront the Young Bucks in front of the live crowd.
Most expected some words between the two teams and the match to be made but instead, things got surprisingly physical on the Lucha Bros’ behalf, with Pentagon going as far as to hit a package piledriver on Matt on the stage leaving him laying as the crowd looked on in shock. This went beyond just two teams wanting to find out who is truly the better tag team — the Lucha Bros made it personal.
From here, the feud picked up in a big way as the Young Bucks chose to retaliate. Matt and Nick started following the Lucha Bros all over the world, showing up unannounced at different pro wrestling events and costing them countless tag team titles in the process. The biggest was showing up at a AAA event in Mexico and defeating the Lucha Bros to take the AAA Tag Team Championship away from them, after the Lucha Bros had won them just minutes earlier.
Fenix and Pentagon have been fuming ever since and look to recapture those AAA titles at Double or Nothing. As of this writing (to the best of our knowledge), this is the only match on the show with titles on the line. But we are certain that these two teams will pull out all the stops to give us a five-star classic to kick off the new company in a big way. Despite what others would have you believe, tag team wrestling in 2019 is alive and well and AEW will be putting a big spotlight on it on Saturday evening.
