What is AEW: An All Elite Wrestling primer
What is AEW? In short, All Elite Wrestling is an opportunity for wrestling fans and performers alike to have a different option to explore when it comes to sports entertainment.
Having a monopoly in any industry is never a good thing. Healthy competition breeds better programming and performances. So when All Elite Wrestling (AEW) was formed in early January of 2019 it opened a lot of doors and has garnered a great deal of excitement as buzz swirls around what’s to come from pro wrestling’s newest brand.
Founded by professional wrestling’s “Elite” Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks, and backed by financial partners Jacksonville Jaguars owners Tony and Shahid Khan, AEW is meant to be the “sports-centric alternative” to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) which focuses more on storyline to drive their narrative than in-ring performances. According to Rhodes, AEW won’t be scripting promos, wins and losses will have meaning again and the talent pool is expected to run deep.
AEW has already signed some of the top talent in the industry including former WWE star Chris Jericho. As the brand continues to build its name many are tagging it as the place to go for current wrestling stars in WWE or elsewhere who are not happy with their current situations. They have also added some of the biggest free agent talent from the independent ranks.

But AEW isn’t focused on going head-to-head with WWE. Instead, they’re focused on delivering the best product they can. AEW has already secured deals with WarnerMedia and ITV, setting them up for even more exposure.
AEW’s first official live event, Double or Nothing, which takes place May 25 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, sold out in record time. Fans are already hyped about the new brand and what its development will mean for the future of professional wrestling.
With Rhodes, The Young Bucks and fellow AEW wrestler Kenny Omega serving as Executive Vice Presidents, and Rhodes’ wife, Brandi, in the role of Chief Brand Officer, it’s a fair assumption that AEW will be more focused on the in-ring product. The younger Khan, who serves as President and CEO of the company, is also passionate about this new venture.
All eyes will be on AEW to see where the promotion goes from here on out. So far, the future looks bright.
