Washington Mystics: If they don’t win the championship, where do they go from here?

A completely stoic offseason in the nation’s capital has worked exactly to their advantage. In 2018, the Mystics got to the Finals despite not being at full strength — missing Emma Meesseman — and despite knowing for only part of the season that mid-round rookie Ariel Atkins is an All-Star in the making. While the Mystics don’t have the thrilling newness of the Wilson-Cambage duo in Las Vegas, or the Ogwumike sister reunion in Los Angeles, Washington is remarkably without weaknesses. They have star power at the top and depth on the bench; a mostly young roster that now has two years of experience going on deep playoff runs together. Everything has shaped up for a remarkably issue-free run at the title in 2019. Which invites the question: if all the stars align in this way and the Mystics still don’t emerge on top, where could the team find a way to improve itself for 2020?
