Idaho – Jake Plummer

A native of Boise, Plummer left to play in the sunshine at Arizona State in 1993, three years before Boise State rose to the D-1 level. The move would prove a good one, as Plummer went on to become a household name as a senior, after two lackluster seasons in his freshman and sophomore campaign.

Plummer threw for 2,575 yards and 23 touchdowns by the time he was a senior, complimenting it with just nine interceptions while adding a touchdown catch and three rushing scores. The performance was enough for Plummer to finish third in the Heisman voting, and the Sun Devils finished with an 11-1 record, the only defeat coming in a 20-17 loss to Ohio State in the 1997 Rose Bowl.

Plummer went on to be selected with the No. 42 pick in the 1997 draft, before a ten-year career that would see him land a spot in the 2005 Pro Bowl. NFL statistics (161 TDs, 161 interceptions) aren’t in question here, but as a first-team All-American in 1996 and the Pac-10 Player of the Year, Plummer takes the cake (or gems?) as Idaho’s best.
