Best college football players of all time from every state
Alaska – Steve Smith
Alaska is one of the United States most beautiful states, but it’s not one of the top producers of football talent. The state that accounts for about a quarter of the oil production in the United States does, however, have a few notable college football players that call it their birthplace.
Steve Smith, a former USC receiver who would go on to a decent career in the NFL, was a First-team All Pac-10 and All-American player in 2006 for the Trojans in the lower 48, during a 2006 season in which Smith really began to make a name for himself and catch the eye of the nation. At just under six feet tall and 200 pounds, Smith wasn’t the most tantalizing prospect physically but was a solid route runner with good hands.
He was one of the top two wide receivers for the team in his time there, and during that 2006 season was on the Maxwell Award watch list for best player in college football, and was MVP of the No. 4 Trojans.
Often mixed up with the former Panthers and Ravens receiver of the same name, Smith would go on from USC to be drafted early in the second round by the New York Giants, before finishing his career with the Eagles, Rams and Buccaneers.
