Best college football players of all time from every state
New Jersey – Mike Rozier
New Jersey is one of the smallest states in the union, but it has put out some impressive football talent over the years, especially when the Northeastern United States dominated the college football landscape.
However, the standout that will represent Jersey hailed from a different era entirely and elected to spend his collegiate days at a school that was then a football powerhouse.
Mike Rozier, the New Jersey native, was a key player in an incredibly impressive Nebraska season in 1983 when the Cornhuskers went 11-0 and fell just one point shy of beating Miami in the national championship game.
Rozier’s 1983 campaign, however, would remain standing as one of the best campaigns ever put together by a running back in college football history, earning him both the Heisman Trophy and the Walter Camp award. In that season, he rushed for 2,148 yards, averaging a figure nearly unheard of at the time with a 7.8 yards per carry average. He added on 29 touchdowns in that season rushing.
During his time as a Cornhusker, Rozier also returned 20 kicks for 449 yards, averaging almost 23 yards per kick.
Rozier would finish his career at Nebraska, being drafted as the No. 2 overall pick in the 1984 Supplemental Draft, with 4,780 yards rushing on 7.2 yards per carry, with 51 touchdowns from scrimmage.
