Former Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois is transferring to Florida Atlantic. If he can’t make it work with Lane Kiffin, this will be the end of his football career.
Deondre Francois is the second troubled former Florida State quarterback to transfer to Florida Atlantic under Lane Kiffin.
Florida State’s recent fall from grace went parallel with the inconsistent play of their quarterback Deondre Francois. Then, things got even worse when the controversial player embroiled himself in a domestic violence situation. While the charges were dropped, the woman who claims she was attacked very much still believes she was hurt by Francois.
Francois will walk on next season and has two more years of eligibility left.
Francois went 5-7 last season after returning from a patella tendon injury suffered vs. Alabama in the season opener the year prior. After a promising redshirt freshman season, Francois was never able to return to the pre-injury form. His final year at FSU, Francois threw 15 touchdowns to 12 interceptions on 57.3 percent passing.
He’s the second former Seminoles quarterback to get a second chance under Kiffin at Florida Atlantic. De’Andre Johnson was the first person to commit to Kiffin at FAU. He was dismissed after punching a woman at a campus bar. He played East Mississippi Community College and was on the Netflix series Last Chance U.
Johnson decided to transfer so now Francois has his last chance to salvage his college career.
Francois should be the best quarterback on the Owls roster and could have an opportunity to win a starting job. Last year’s starter, Chris Robison is suspended after reportedly being investigated for sexual battery.
Francois is fortunate to get a second chance, his last chance, after his off-field incidents that led to his exit from Florida State. Kiffin has proven to be open to giving players the chance now it’s up to Francois to prove whether it was the right or wrong decision.
