5 players Manchester City should target this summer

Manchester City will approach the transfer market with an eye on attaining Champions League glory. Here are five players who could help.
Manchester City find themselves in uncharted territory heading into the transfer window with the club having achieved the first ever domestic treble in England. The Premier League champions were near-flawless in their pursuit of glory which begs the question if any change is necessary at all. While manager Pep Guardiola would be forgiven for not tinkering with his squad too much, a handful of deals will need to be completed if the club are to go one further next season and win the coveted Champions League.
Wholesale changes are unlikely to be made but it’s a given that there will be departures whose places will need filling. Added to that, a number of the core players are aging and will need to phased out or replaced. Here are five players the club could consider signing.
Lucas Digne
There’s been talk in recent weeks that City are close to sealing a deal for Juventus right-back, Joao Cancelo. The Portuguese international would be a great addition to most sides but a move for him seems like a luxury signing for City, particularly when the club have bigger concerns on the opposite flank.
Benjamin Mendy is an immensely talented left-back but the Frenchman has spent more time in the physio room than on the pitch over the last two seasons. Since joining City, he has been restricted to just 17 league appearances which has forced midfielders Fabian Delph and Oleksandr Zinchenko to be used as makeshift replacements.
The position presents itself as a glaring weak link in an otherwise incredible squad and even though Delph and Zinchenko have performed admirably, a long-term solution should be sought. Mendy’s French teammate and current Everton left-back Lucas Digne is the perfect player to assume the role.
Digne enjoyed a stellar debut season in the Premier League where he scored four goals and recorded four assists in 35 appearances. Having previously played for the likes of PSG and Barcelona, the 25-year-old possesses many of the qualities required by a manager like Pep Guardiola and would fit in seamlessly in his squad.
Everton are unlikely to let one of their star players go but if City are serious about dominating the Premier League and competing for the Champions League then he’s a player they should consider.
