DraftKings MLB Picks May 28: Freddie’s ready for Strasburg

The Yankees and Reds are starting before the normal 7 pm Eastern start time by about a half hour, so of course, DraftKings punishes them by leaving them off the main slate. That means our DraftKings MLB main slate is cut down to 13 games. Unfortunately, a couple of good pitchers were left off in the early slate. Not to worry. We still have a lot going on in these 13 games.

More from DFS

I’ll go out on a limb and say that all 13 games aren’t getting played. Rain is likely in Philly and certain in Boston. Expect one or both of those to be taken off, so adjust accordingly. There is also a great chance of rain most of the day in Denver, so keep an eye on that as well.

The wind is fairly tame tonight. The only place it will really be a bother is in Boston, but I’m crossing that game off anyway.

These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. We have plenty of writers on here who give you relevant information no matter which site you play on, and we all attack the slate from different angles.

DraftKings MLB Pitcher Plays:

Top Tier:

Matt Boyd ($10,300): Boyd doesn’t have much experience against the Orioles, but they are 0-8 against him. Yes, the Orioles do have a lot of right handed batters to throw out there, but none of them are intimidating. This is pretty much a guaranteed win for a guy that has only had one bad start all year. Boyd may be the most sure thing of the night.

Lucas Giolito ($9,900): Giolito, fresh off of his first career shutout, gets a Royals team that is hitting just .123 in 73 at bats against him. The Royals have hit three homers, but only have six runs and have struck out an impressive 24 times. Giolito is priced right up there with the elite arms, but I’ll tell you that I would shell this out for Giolito a thousand times before I pay that massive price for Montas.

Middle Tier:

Ryan Yarbrough ($8,300): Yarbrough dazzled in his return to the majors against Cleveland last week so I have no issues using him against the Blue Jays. The Jays haven’t really hit anyone well lately. Yarbrough wont rack up a lot of strikeouts, but I’d be surprised if he gives up two runs again. He has a better chance of hitting the pitch count than getting yanked for giving up runs.

Max Fried ($8,100): Fried has struggled on the road lately, but he is still money Max at home. Fried has a 2.08 ERA in five home starts, and the Nationals shouldn’t do much to hurt that average. The Nats have limited exposure to Fried, but I have no issue riding his numbers at home.

Bargain Pitchers:

Marco Gonzales ($6,900): Gonzales has just dominated the Rangers this year. He has given up just one earned run in 14 innings while striking out 12 Rangers. Gonzales looks cheap here as well. There are a ton of expensive bats out there, so having Gonzales here where you can use him as a SP1 if you need to is going to be huge in our lineup builds tonight.

Brad Keller ($6,000): I know that Keller has really not pitched well lately, but that could change here. The White Sox are only hitting .186 in 97 at bats against Keller with two homers, five runs, and 18 strikeouts. Those are really good numbers for this price. Keller has racked up 35.8 DraftKings points in two games against the White Sox this year. If he comes anywhere near that 18 DraftKings points average, we’re going to be ecstatic!

Adrian Sampson ($4,800): The Rangers took a page out of the Rays book and used an opener for Sampson his last turn. It worked wonders. Sampson picked up 21.6 DraftKings points in 5.1 innings against this same Seattle team. Sampson has 32.8 DraftKings points in his last two outings not starting the game. He is way too cheap tonight!

My picks: Giolito, Gonzales; Boyd, Keller, Giolito, Sampson

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN – MAY 25: Andrew McCutchen #22 of the Philadelphia Phillies celebrates with teammates after hitting a home run in the first inning against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park on May 25, 2019 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. (Photo by Dylan Buell/Getty Images) /

DraftKings MLB stack options

Houston Astros vs. Jon Lester:

Lester hasn’t been very good on the road, and there is a ton of right handed power in this lineup. Carlos Correa and Alex Bregman stand out, and I really like George Springer if he plays. You could also throw Tyler White and Derek Fisher out there on the cheap. Any righty is a good pick against Lester.

Oakland Athletics vs. Nick Tropeano/bullpen

The A’s work counts big time anyway, which is bad news for a guy on a pitch count. This lineup lost a big piece with Davis, but there is still plenty to like. Chapman, Olson, and Marcus Semien are my favorite picks. I can also get on board with a hot Josh Phegley and Jurickson Profar. Don’t forget about Robbie Grossman, especially if he is leading off.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Adam Wainwright:

The Phillies are hitting .348 with five homers and 21 runs in 132 at bats against Wainwright, so this isn’t some sort of fluke. Andrew McCutchen has done a bulk of the damage with two homers and nine RBI and a .295 average in 61 at bats. Odubel Herrera, Bryce Harper, and Jean Segura are all hitting better than .450 and have homered against Wainwright. Those four are none negotiable. The fifth can be anyone, especially when you consider Waino has never faced Rhys Hoskins.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Steven Matz:

Matz has solid numbers this year, but none of them have come on the road. Matz has a 6.10 ERA in six road starts, and the Dodgers smash lefties. Kike Hernandez comes to mind right away, and he’s still pretty cheap. Bellinger hits lefties well enough to consider, but only after I put Justin Turner and David Freese in there first. Every Dodgers righty is a good idea tonight.

WASHINGTON, DC – MARCH 30: Anthony Rendon #6 of the Washington Nationals celebrates with Ryan Zimmerman #11 after scoring on an RBI single by Juan Soto #22 (not pictured) in the first inning against the New York Mets at Nationals Park on March 30, 2019 in Washington, DC. DraftKings MLB daily notes:

Dylan Bundy has pitched better lately, and it has everything to do with cutting down on the homers. Fortunately for him, the Tigers don’t hit a lot of long balls. Bundy is still too expensive for me to use, but I’m not going after him hard either. Castellanos and Ronny Rodriguez are my main interests.

Nick Pivetta has pitched well against St. Louis, but I still don’t trust him. Marcell Ozuna, Carpenter, Yadi Molina, and Gyorko have all homered against Pivetta before.

I’ll consider Vlad Jr. against a lefty tonight, but I don’t really see anyone else in the Toronto lineup that stands out.

More from FanSided

Clayton Richard has good past numbers against the Rays, but I wouldn’t use any pitcher against them right now. Too much can go wrong. Using Austin Meadows and Tommy Pham look to be really good ideas though.

Nothing really stands out against Jeff Samardzija. Neil Walker has two homers and six RBI against Shark, but is only 6-34(.176) overall. I would much rather go with Granderson or Harold Ramirez.

I have no issue using Joe Panik or Brandon Crawford as punts, but I’m not going out of my way to use Giants tonight.

Freddie Freeman is a lock tonight. Freeman has owned Stephen Strasburg. He is 17-48(.354) with four homers and 16 RBi against him. Nick Markakis, Dansby Swanson, and Brian McCann have taken him deep as well. In fact, the Braves are hitting .322 off of Strasbug in 143 at bats. I’m after Braves bats on the cheap tonight.

I have no problem using Anthony Rendon or Trea Turner against Fried, but I’m not getting cute with cheap righties against Fried. He is good enough to shut the rest of them down.

I’m not stacking against Corbin Martin because he likely wont be in there that long. Rizzo, Baez, and Kris Bryant are my main interests, but I’m not beneath using Kyle Schwarber if he is still leading off.

Jorge Soler is really the only batter I want from either side in this game. We are actually going to see a pitcher’s duel at US Guaranteed Comiskey Cellular Rate Field Park tonight.

Zach Davies has really good numbers on the season and honestly looks cheap, but I just can’t trust any pitcher against the Twins right now. Max Kepler, Rosario, and Jorge Polanco really stand out to me here.

I feel the same way about Martin Perez. He isn’t underpriced like Davies, but he has a really tough matchup against the Brewers. I would rather use Ryan Braun and Jesus Aguilar against Perez than pay up for him.

If the Coors game plays, I’m a fan of cheap Rockies and Nick Ahmed, but most of the rest of the Diamondbacks are way too expensive to use here.

Joey Gallo has two homers against Marco Gonzales and Hunter Pence has the other. The problem is that they are $5,600 and $5,500 respectively. You can find better ways to spend that kind of coin.

There is no way that I’m paying up for Frankie Montas. I may use Mike Trout against him just because. Maybe even a little Kole Calhoun as well.

I understand the merits of paying for Rich Hill, but I’m just not feeling it. Especially when you consider the Mets will throw nine righties out there. Amed Rosario is my favorite play here. Todd Frazier is worth considering as well.
