DraftKings PGA: 2019 The Memorial Picks and Analysis
IMPORTANT NOTE: I will be at Muirfield Village Golf Club this weekend, taking in the final rounds of the tournament. Follow me on Twitter @Mystery_Main for up-to-date course conditions and player updates. And feel free to message me about anything that is Muirfield Village GC, DraftKings PGA or The Memorial.
Colonial was fun. Kevin Na broke through once again and was able to take home the trophy. Tony Finau and Andrew Putnam put together a nice tournament, but were not even close to catching Na. I was on Na and Putnam but, as with most of the top salary talent, my top guys missed the cut. However, he can never complain when you’re 4 out of 6 lineups cash.
This week, the PGA tour moves from Texas to Ohio for The Memorial classic. Muirfield Village Golf Club plays host to The Memorial. Muirfield Village is a challenging tract. It boasts thick rough, undulation, and tiny fast greens. The course will play close to 7400 yards, but feels shorter than that. Short hitters seemed to fare just as well as long driver’s do at this tract. The average winning score at Muirfield over the past 8 years is around 14-under.
Bryson DeChambeau shot a final round 71 to win the 2018 edition over Beyong Hun An and Kyle Stanley. Jason Dufner (13 under) outlasted Ricky Fowler to win the 2017 Memorial. Tiger returns this week, to a tournament that he has won 5 times before. His most recent victory was in 2012.
The keys to this course are to keep the ball on the Fairway and hit your approaches close. The greens will be extremely fast and undulating. The Bent grass is pure, and may remind some of Augusta. Look for an excellent ball striker to come out on top this week.

DraftKings PGA: 2019 The Memorial Picks
Tiger Woods 11,200
Tiger ranks 8 in my model, ranking in the top 10 in opportunities gained, approach, scrambling, BOB, and DK points. Tiger plays well at this golf course, and is in great form. He should be hungry after missed cut at the PGA Championship. Tiger played this event in 2018, finishing T23. The price is higher than it should be, but I hope that deters people from the Tiger this week.
Patrick Cantlay 10,200
Cantlay will be popular this week. His superb play at the Majors has provided him with some extra notoriety. I cannot pass on Patrick this week though. His game is an excellent form, raking and the top 5 in Tee-to-Green, DK points, and Course history. Cantlay has played this course twice before, finishing T35 and fourth.
Henrik Stenson 8,500
This course fits Stenson perfectly. This course is described as a 2nd shot golf course and the preferred tool off the tee is a 3 wood. Stenson ranks in the top 10 in the field in approach, fairways gained, and Tee-To-Green. Those are 3 of the main stats that I am looking for this week. Stenson played this course last year for the first time since 2013, finishing T13. I like him to improve on that finish in the 2019 edition.

Emiliano Grillo 7,900
Grillo has been 5 consecutive cuts, gaining on approach and tee-to-green and each event. He finished at the Charles Schwab. Now he returns to retract that he has played well at. Grillo has played this event 3 times, finishing T11, T40 and T23.

Grillo ranks 3rd in my model, ranking in the top-10 in Approach, Tee-To-Green, and putting on fast Bentgrass. The Argentine is not known as a good putter, but has his best putting splits on Bentgrass.
Keegan Bradley 7,600
Speaking of bad putters that putt much better on Bentgrass… I have a love-to-play relationship with Keegan Bradley. The guy always pops in my model just because he ranks near the top of the field in SG Approach week-in and week-out.
His game has been incredibly consistent recently. Keegan had a streak of 20 consecutive made cuts that was broken at the Valspar. Since that MC he has made cuts at the PGA Championship and the Masters with an MC at the Wells Fargo. For this price I have to roster him. He checks boxes in Approach (1st), Opportunities gained (8th), and T2G (4th). His form here is good, with 2 top-10’s and 5/6 made cuts at this course.
Merritt is my near minimum salary punt this week. He checks boxes in approach and opportunities gained, ranking in the top-10 in both categories over his last 12 rounds. Merritt missed the cut at the PGA, but had a top-10 at the RBC Heritage a few weeks back. If his ball-striking can remain elite, then he can make the cut at this event. Merritt has played this course 3 times, with his best finish a T52 in 2015.
