Jeremy Jeffress enters the Matrix and 6 other moments you missed Monday
Jeffress makes an incredible catch, Torey Krug unloads monster hit in Bruins win and other moments you missed on Monday.
1. Jeremy Jeffress enters the Matrix to make an incredible catch
Milwaukee pitcher Jeremy Jeffress clearly took the red pill before making an incredible, Matrix-style grab on a line drive hit right back to him. Jeffress would leave the game at the Brewers’ discretion but told reporters he felt fine after the Brewers’ 5-4 win against the Twins. While Jeffress may have escaped unscathed, his reality will never be the same.
2. Boston Bruins land first blow in Stanley Cup Final
The St. Louis Blues went up 2-0 early in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, but the Bruins would respond and tie it up 2-2 by the end of the 2nd period. Boston would complete the knock out blow with not only two more goals in the 3rd period to secure the 4-2 win, but a coast-to-coast hit from a helmetless Torey Krug that sent Robert Thomas into another dimension.
3. Mallex Smith completes the steal cycle
Mallex Smith’s base-stealing performance on Monday is one that gives Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez’s legendary fictional steal of home a run for his money. Mallex Smith decided he didn’t need to be batted in on and after drawing a walk in the bottom of the eighth inning, proceeded to steal second base … then third base … then, yep you guessed it, home.
4. Matt Moore leads Virginia to first NCAA men’s lacrosse title since 2011
Matt Moore was sniping corners in his hometown of Philadelphia during the NCAA Men’s Division I Lacrosse Championship on Monday. The sophomore attackman contributed four highlight reel goals in the Cavaliers’ 13-9 win over defending champions Yale. The win gave Virginia another NCAA Division I title just months after the Cavaliers’ NCAA Division I Basketball Championship on April 8.
5. Rockies win thanks to yet another walk-off
The Rockies’ 4-3 walk-off win over the Diamondbacks on Monday night came courtesy of an RBI-single from Raimel Tapia. The walk-off is Colorado’s third walk-off win in four days, proving that they prefer to finish games in style.
6. Cody Bellinger continues to be a human highlight reel
Cody Bellinger continued his dominance on Monday with some highlight-worthy plays on both offense and defense. He got the day started by throwing out Michael Conforto at home in the first inning and then followed that up with a solo home run in the third. Then, just for kicks, he threw out Carlos Gomez to end the eighth inning on a double-play thanks to a missile strike to Justin Turner.
7. Kevin Kiermaier mimics Air Jordan logo while making an improbable catch at the wall
Kevin Kiermaier is known for his amazing defensive plays in baseball, but we have a feeling he’d do pretty well on the basketball court as well. Kiermaier took flight to make a potential home run-saving grab in the Rays 8-3 win over Toronto.
Overtime: Blind man drains a free throw on his first attempt
David Turner, who is blind, attempted a free throw while among his family and friends. He sunk his first attempt and his fans went berserk accordingly.
