Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera was arrested for domestic violence at an Atlantic City casino.

On Monday night, Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera was arrested on a charge of simple assault following a domestic violence incident.

According to police, Herrera is accused of leaving “visible signs of injury” on the neck and arms of  his 20-year old girlfriend. The woman refused medical attention, while Herrera was arrested without incident in his hotel room and released along with a summons to appear in court at a later date.

The alleged incident took place at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, and Herrera was arrested around 8:30 p.m ET.

Todd Zolecki of MLB.com was among those to report Herrera has been immediately placed on administrative leave, in accordance with MLB’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy.

The Phillies also released a statement on the matter Tuesday morning.

Herrera earned his first and only career All-Star selection in 2016, on his way to hitting .286 with 15 home runs and 25 steals in 159 games. He signed a five-year, $30.5 million contract extension with the Phillies that year. He was similarly productive in 2017 (.281, 14 home runs), then set career-highs with 22 home runs and 71 RBI last year.

So far this year, Herrera is hitting just .222 with one home run, 16 RBI and a .629 OPS that would be a career-worst by more than 100 points.

Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias was arrested on a domestic violence charge earlier this month, spent seven days on administrative leave and was reinstated as the league continues to investigate and criminal charges loom for him.

Herrera can also be on paid administrative leave for up to a week. Then, pending the results of MLB’s investigation, could eventually be facing a lengthy suspension beyond whatever legal ramifications might follow.
