Peter Lambert

Remember when we told you about the terrible, terrible pitching the Rockies have been getting? Also, how the prospects have been not so great themselves? Well, Peter Lambert is basically the best of the worst.

Depending on where you look, Lambert is in most places is considered a top-three prospect for the Rockies. He’s by far the best pitching prospect they have in their system. Yet, you would never guess if we showed you his stats.

He pitched lights-out for AA Hartford Yard Goats. Then, when he was promoted to Albuquerque, he had trouble getting outs. This season, it’s more of the same. He’s got a 5.07 ERA over 11 starts. His control has really been on point, striking out 51 batters against just 16 walks. Those are superior stats, and despite his ballooned ERA, it shows Lambert can still dominate batters.

In his last outing, he was phenomenal. He pitched seven innings of shutout baseball while striking out 10 batters. He’s getting more and more used to the conditions he has to face, and his numbers will get better. When you look at the rest of the team, Lambert is the best pitcher there. His 5.07 ERA is best among full-time starters.

When looking at the Rockies current starting pitching staff, they desperately need a guy who can miss bats. Lambert can do that, and maybe do it as well as players in the starting five right now.
