Main DraftKings MLB Picks May 30: Roll up on Ryu

The seven game main DraftKings MLB slate is also smaller than we are used to, but it does reverse a recent trend in which Thursday evenings only had two or three games. I much prefer things this way.

More from DFS

Rain is going to be a problem for a couple of games. Pittsburgh faces a delayed start, and it could be bad enough to postpone this one if the rain lingers. Rain is pretty certain in New York. Even if this game starts, it most likely wont finish. MLB doesn’t want a truncated Sox-Yankees brawl. This one will likely be rained out, so I’m leaving it off of my slate. I wont be taking anyone from that game unless the forecast significantly improves. Even though we leave Chris Sale off the slate, there’s still a lot of good pitching!

On the bright side, wind wont be an issue anywhere. The most prominent breeze is a 10 mph one out to center in Pittsburgh.

I didn’t have enough Dodgers to truly have a great lineup, but my Snell/Means, and Snell/Nola lines were solid. Having McCutchen across the board placed me in two of the three lineups.

These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. We have plenty of writers on here who give you relevant information no matter which site you play on, and we all attack the slate from different angles.

DraftKings MLB Pitcher Plays:

Top Tier:

Hyun-Jin Ryu ($11,200): The Mets are hitting just .179 against Ryu in 39 at bats with only a solo homer and ten strikeouts. That’s dominance so far in a small sample size. Want dominance in a larger sample size? How about Ryu’s 1.22 ERA and 0.65 WHIP in five home starts. Pay up for Ryu. He’s worth it.

Charlie Morton ($10,000): It’s tough for me to pay five figures for any pitcher against the Twins right now. Morton kept them under wraps in his one prior start against them, but I’m still really nervous about this. The strikeouts are a big draw here, so even if Morton gives up a couple of bombs, there shouldn’t be anyone on base and the strikeouts help erase the damage. Morton has a 2.54 ERA for a reason.

Middle Tier:

Carlos Carrasco ($9,500): It’s not often that I’m on Carrasco anymore, but he has held the White Sox to a .190 average in 189 at bats with six homers, 14 runs, and a bloated 61 strikeouts. There is a lot to like here for Carrasco. Carrasco has a career 3.45 ERA in 78.1 innings in Guaranteed U.S. Comiskey Cellular Rate Field Park. Carrasco has a nice 91 strikeouts in those 78.1 innings as well.

Tyler Skaggs ($8,200): Skaggs handcuffed Texas in his last start, so he may be getting on track. He was efficient, only allowing three hits while striking out seven in 5.2 innings. The Mariners do have some right handed power so this isn’t a foolproof play, but there is enough to like here to roll Skaggs out as one of the cheaper pitchers tonight. After all, Skaggs does have a 2.28 ERA in four home starts this year.

Bargain Pitchers:

Yusei Kikuchi ($6,800): We get Kikuchi on the cheap since the A’s blew him up his last time out. Kikuchi’s worst start besides that was against this Angels team back in April. It wasn’t that bad of a start, but Kikuchi did allow ten hits in five innings. The Angels have mostly struggled against lefties, so I have no issues throwing Kikuchi out there, especially at a marked discount.

My picks: Ryu, Carrasco; Ryu, Kikuchi

DraftKings MLB stack options

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Chase Anderson:

Anderson has pitched well so far this year, but this is about as bad as a matchup can get for him. The Pirates are hitting 290 in 107 at bats with nine homers and 16 runs to only 14 strikeouts. Most of the damage has been done by Gregory Polanco, who is only 7-33(.212) against Anderson, but he has five homers and six RBI. Starling Marte and Adam Frazier have both homered twice off of Anderson as well. You can probably get by with just those three, but it’s hard to fade Josh Bell and Kevin Newman right now.

Texas Rangers vs. Jake Junis:

Junis has pitched better recently, but this Texas team is built to rip righties. They knocked Junis around some in their only time facing him last year. Rougned Odor homered in that game. Joey Gallo, Nomar Mazara, and Choo all hit righties well. Elvis Andrus is riding a nice little hot streak as well, and I always have room for a leadoff batter in my stacks.

Cleveland Indians vs. Manny Banuelos:

Banuelos has started twice against the Indians so far and has served up five homers in those two games, failing to go five innings in either one. Jordan Luplow has three of those five homers, so lock him in. Jake Bauers and Roberto Perez have the others. Don’t be shy about using Francisco Lindor or an awakening Jose Ramirez in with the cheapies.

LOS ANGELES, CA – SEPTEMBER 04: David Freese #25 of the Los Angeles Dodgers celebrates his solo homerun, to trail 4-3 to the New York Mets, with manager Dave Roberts #30 and bench coach Bob Geren #16 during the fourth inning at Dodger Stadium on September 4, 2018 in Los Angeles, California. DraftKings MLB daily notes:

Just in case the Yankees and Red Sox do play, Steve Pearce is a must play. He has six homers and 16 RBI against Happ. Mookie has two homers off of him as well.

I like Musgrove, but I don’t trust him against the Brewers. Moose, Ben Gamel, and Yelich have all homered against him already.

Martin Perez is not worth the price tonight. He has had a very good year, but the Rays are a good offense, and are especially good at home where no one shows up to watch them. Don’t ask me how that works. If Perez were cheaper I would consider him, but there are too many dangerous hitters in this lineup to use him. Tommy Pham is my favorite. The red hot Austin Meadows and Brandon Lowe are worth a look as well.

More from FanSided

If you want to take a run at Morton, the usual Twins suspects are in play: Jorge Polanco, Eddie Rosario, and Max Kepler. I can’t say I’m crazy about any of them for the price though. Jason Castro at $3,400 is tempting though.

I might throw Jorge Soler out there against Minor, but that’s about it. I wont pay Minor’s price because he only picked up 13.3 DraftKings points on this same Royals team just 15 days ago. The Royals were pesky, but only had one run to show for it. They also struck out just three times.

By some miracle, Jason Vargas has only allowed seven runs over his last five starts. He has been trolling those of us stacking against him. The Dodgers are one of the most notorious stack failures in the history of DFS, so those of you with stock in Pepto Bismol may even use Vargas. As for me, I’ll roll a cheap David Freese out there. Freese is 8-14 with three homers against Vargas. The rest of the team is 3-14 with no homers and no RBI against Vargas.

Even if I use Carrasco, I might still put Jose Abreu out there. Abreu is only 10-48(.208) against Carrasco, but he has two homers and eight RBI against him. Yonder Alonso has smacked two homers against Carrasco as well.

Juan Lagares has the only Mets run against Ryu. I wouldn’t go out of my way to use anyone from this lineup though. Maybe Amed Rosario, but that’s it.

Mitch Haniger is the guy I want against Tyler Skaggs tonight. Most of the rest of the Seattle offense is still slumping so I’m mostly staying away. I still have room for Haniger and Kyle Seager. They are about the only two Mariners that are hitting right now.

No one Angel really did well against Kikuchi. There weren’t a lot of extra base hits and no homers since he only gave up three runs despite the ten hits. Trout and Pujols are worth a look, but I’m not really crazy about any Angels here.
