NFL quarterback power rankings: Patrick Mahomes takes No. 1

The 2019 NFL season is slowly approaching as summer nears. With the bulk of the offseason gone, what do the starting quarterback power rankings look like?

Even with the recent boom in dynamic, swiss-army knife runningbacks, the NFL is still a quarterback driven league. Teams without as much as a stable signal caller are those that are usually looking at a high draft selection in the draft.

Last season we saw the emergence of many young quarterbacks. Patrick Mahomes was the MVP of the league; Jared Goff led his team to the Super Bowl and Baker Mayfield looks like he’s up to the task for the Cleveland Browns.

Some veterans reminded us all just how good they are as well. Andrew Luck won AP Comeback Player of the Year, Matt Ryan threw for nearly 5,000 yards and Tom Brady raised the Lombardi Trophy once again.

For the teams without the luxury of a veteran, or rising star, under center, they either look to the draft or free agency to address the need.

Each season a new young college quarterback takes the headlines, makes a run at the College Football Playoff, flirts with the Heisman and enters the draft touted as a franchise saver. Or, a veteran option slips into the open free-agent market and gets overpaid to serve as a quick fix for borderline contending teams.

Roster landscapes are mostly set, and teams have a general idea of who will be starting at the quarterback position for them in 2019. So, who’s the number one quarterback in the NFL right now?
