22. Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans

Winston hasn’t been the only 2015 draft selection who has predominantly been disappointing. Marcus Mariota, selected the pick after Winston, has followed that same up and down trend over his first four years in the NFL.

Mariota has been mired with inconsistencies, but in a different way than Winston. He has shown the ability to do enough to win games, but he’s never shown more than simply enough.

Over the duration of his career, Mariota holds a rather mediocre record of 27-28 in the regular season and 1-1 in the playoffs. That record sums up his career well.

Mariota will have stretches of play where Titans fans are high on optimism that maybe he is about to turn the corner. Instead, he takes another step back towards that middle of the pack.

The former Oregon Duck is still young, and he is entering the fifth year of his career. Team general manager, Jon Robinson, exercised Mariota’s fifth-year contract option instead of extending him.

Robinson’s decision makes 2019 a massive year for Mariota, as Robinson has painted it as a prove it season. In defense of Mariota, he was playing some of the best football of his career before sustaining an injury that ended his season. He completed a career-high 68.9 percent of his passes and set a career-high in rushing yards.

Finding a way to make wiser decisions and taking another step would solve a lot of problems for Mariota. Until he does so, he will be just another average, middling quarterback.
