20. Jimmy Garoppolo, San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers found their guy when team general manager John Lynch called up the New England Patriots to swing a deal for Jimmy Garoppolo in 2017. All he did was go 5-0 in his first five starts with the team, which led to a $137.5 million extension over five years.

The Belichick disciple made a first impression for the ages. Heading into 2018, the 49ers were one of those up-and-coming teams to keep an eye on. Unfortunately, their signal caller tore his ACL during a Week 3 game against the Kansas City Chiefs and was sidelined for the remainder of the year.

After throwing three interceptions in a Week 1 loss, Garoppolo completed over 67 percent of his passes for 457 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 2 and part of the Week 3 game. In 2017, he tossed seven scores, threw five picks and had 1,560 yards in six games.

Ranking Garoppolo is not only hard, but probably unfair to both he and other quarterbacks in the NFL. Why? Because you’re evaluating such a small sample size. At 27-years old, and based of his 6-2 start with the Niners, you’re buying into the idea of potential.

However, ranking Garoppolo higher than some other more proven players after 10 games started and 361 passing attempts isn’t fair. At the moment, he is a top-20 quarterback, but that can change quickly with a healthy 2019.
