NFL quarterback power rankings: Patrick Mahomes takes No. 1
27. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
Throwing the football is not an issue for Josh Allen. He has a cannon of an arm and he can make athletic throws due to his arm talent.
Completing throws is a different story. Perhaps the biggest knock on Allen coming out of Wyoming was that even with his big arm, his 56.2 collegiate-completion percentage indicated he may be too erratic for the NFL.
That didn’t change during his first year in the league, as Allen completed 52.8 percent of his passes. He still played well for a rookie. He threw 10 touchdowns for 2,074 yards with 12 interceptions.
Allen was also a threat as a runner. He ran for 631 yards and eight touchdowns. Even with his challenges throwing the ball, he made plays with his legs and went 5-6 in 2018.
Allen did play well, and more importantly he won some football games. But completing more passes and becoming more of a threat in the pocket will help him take a massive leap in 2019.
It does appear that the Bills found their quarterback of the future, now Allen just needs to work on becoming a better passer. Adding Cole Beasley, Frank Gore and John Brown can add to the team’s depth at the skills positions, which will help their young gunslinger this upcoming season.
