5. RB Todd Gurley, Los Angeles Rams

Under the team’s current head coach the past two seasons, the numbers have been pretty astounding when it comes to talented running back Todd Gurley. The 2015 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year rushed for 1,106 in his debut campaign. And in his first two NFL seasons (29 contests), the 10xx overall pick in ’15 accumulated 2,506 yards from scrimmage and 16 touchdowns.

Fast forward to 2017 and the arrival of new sideline leader and offensive mind Sean McVay. Over the last two years, Gurley has played in an identical number regular-season games. The 24-year-old performer has rolled up an impressive 3,924 total yards from scrimmage and reached the end zone 40 times.

But Gurley was limited the NFC title game vs. the Rams and touched the football only 11 times in Super Bowl LIII. There’s been talk of an arthritic knee and other concerns. But there’s no doubt that the team has a plan.

“We anticipate Todd being a huge part of this like he has been the last couple years,” explained McVay in early May (via ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry). “As far as managing the workload, those are things that we talk about with Todd and as you continue to get educated on, is that something that we should do for the long haul or something that is or isn’t going to affect Todd most importantly and how does that affect our team.”

It will be interesting to see how Gurley performs in 2019. For now, he remains one of the NFL’s top performers who has yet to celebrate his 25th birthday.
