6. Adam Cole vs. EC3 vs. Killian Dain vs. Lars Sullivan vs. Ricochet vs. Velveteen Dream in a Ladder match for the inaugural NXT North American Championship at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans
They say ladder matches shorten careers. After watching the ladder match for the inaugural NXT North American Championship, it’s easy to see why.
The “this is awesome” chants started before the match even began and they continued throughout, as these six Superstars destroyed each other with ladders.
There was so much action it’s hard to put this amazing match into words. Ricochet is the gift that keeps on giving, as he executed some of the most amazing high spots including a running springboard shooting star press to the floor and a moonsault off the ladder into a pile of Superstars below just as the ladder was being tipped.
But Ricochet would take his share of punishment as well, with Dain and Sullivan tossing him back and forth across the ring and Dream hitting his patented rolling death valley driver off the top rope onto a ladder that had been set up in a bridge.
The big men in the match weren’t without their own spots. Dain launched himself in a suicide dive and Sullivan simply launched the ladder into all five of his opponents, using it as a device of destruction.
A superkick party by Cole brought everyone in the crowd to their feet. And just when everyone thought the newest NXT Superstar, Ricochet, would capture gold, Cole slipped in and snatched the opportunity, making him the first-ever NXT North American Champion.
