NASCAR DFS Pit Stop: Pocono Green 250 – Xfinity Series From Pocono
By Matt Vecchio
Welcome NASCAR DFS Pit Stop for this weekends Xfinity Series from Pocono Raceway! This week we have a field similar to last, but with 2 full-time NASCAR Cup Series drivers in the field. Both Austin Dillon and Ryan Preece will be hopping into the Xfinity cars this weekend.
Saturday afternoon the Xfinity Series takes center stage for the Pocono Green 250 . It marks the 4th time the NASCAR Xfinity has competed at Pocono with Kyle Larson, Brad Keselowski and Kyle Busch winning previously. Since none of those three are entered Saturday, a new race winner is guaranteed.
Cole Custer, who won the pole for last year’s race, is hoping to add his name to the list of winners on Saturday. He’ll have a number of competitors trying keep that from happening including teammate Chase Briscoe. Justin Allgaier has an ARCA win at Pocono on his resume. The JR Motorsports driver is 5th in the series standings and will look to climb up a few spot with a good run on Saturday.
NASCAR DFS – Leaders of the Pack
Tyler Reddick ($11,100)
2019 Avg Finish: 4.4
Tyler Reddick is the hottest driver in the Xfinity series right now with 8 straight top 4 finishes, including 2 wins in the last 3 races in the series. There isn’t much I really need to tell you to convince you to play Reddick, no matter where he qualifies he is a great play. You can confidently roster Reddick on Saturday even at his high price.
Christopher Bell ($10,700)
2019 Avg Finish: 9.8
Bell had some bad luck last week in Charlotte and ended up 31st but that won’t discourage me from playing Bell. Other than Reddick, Bell has been the most consistent driver in the Xfinity series. Bell has 3 wins and 7 top 10’s in 11 races this season. In final practice on Friday Bell had the 3rd best single lap as well as the 3rd best 10 lap average. If you can’t get up to Reddick comfortably Bell is a great pivot.
Cole Custer ($10,400)
2019 Avg Finish: 11.6
Custer had the fastest car in final practice Friday afternoon after having the second fastest car in first practice. Like the two drivers listed above him, Custer is an excellent play no matter where he qualifies. My goal is to play 3 drivers from the top-tier and Custer is the one driver I will be locking in as my top play. Last year at this race Custer led 23 laps and came away with a 5th place finish, the best of the rest of the drivers in this price tier.
Ryan Preece ($9,800)
2019 Avg Finish: 7.5 (2 races)
Preece has run 2 races in the JTG Daugherty Racing #8 this season and finished inside the top 10 in both races. In both practice sessions on Friday Preecce ran the 11th best lap time. I like Preece today, but for me he is a qualifying play, if qualifies inside the top 5 I think I fade him, but anywhere else I like Preece.
NASCAR DFS – Middle of the Pack
Noah Gragson ($8,400)
2019 Avg Finish: 11.3
I took a couple of weeks off from touting my boy Noah, but he is back in the article this week! Gragson is coming off his best finish (4th place) since his 3rd place finish back in Vegas. Gragson’s #9 JR Motorsports Chevy was 14th in first practice but ran inside the top 10 in final practice making me think the team made some positive changes, Gragson also ran an 8th best 10 lap average on final practice as well.
Jeffrey Earnhardt ($8,200)
2019 Avg Finish: 11.6
In his 5 races this season Earnhardt has only one finish lower than 15th (26th place at Talladega). Outside of his 15th place finish Earnhardt has a 6th, an 8th, and a 3rd (last week at Charlotte). I believe Earnhardt has a top 10 car again this week and if I need a couple of hundred dollars to make one of the top-tier guys fit I will come down off Gragson to Earnhardt.
Other Options: Chase Briscoe ($9,200), Ryan Sieg ($8,800), Brandon Jones ($7,900)
NASCAR DFS – Back of the Pack
Jeremy Clements ($7,300)
2019 Avg Finish: 20.7
Clements has a car that looks like he could run and finish inside the top 15. Clements has 3 top 20 finishes in his last 5 races, including two 13th place finishes. If you are trying to get the top 3 priced drivers into your lineups, I like Clements as a great replacement for one of the mid tier drivers.

Matt Mills ($5,400)
2019 Avg Finish: 26.0
If you want to roster 3 top-tier and a mid tier you are going to be left with less than $6K per driver and that is why I am looking at Mills. When paying this low price for a driver you want someone who will finish the race (not a start and park driver) and that is Mills. One thing I like about Mills is he has finished with positive place differential points in 8 straight races. You are not looking for laps led or fastest laps at this price, you want someone who will run the entire race and not get you negative points.
Todd Peck ($5,100)
2019 Avg Finish: N/A
This play here is purely a salary play but could be a sneaky play that gets you some great points. Peck has not raced in the Xfinity series this season but is driving the #99 car that has run well for small team this season. With only 38 cars entered this week all will make the field so there is no fear of this car missing the race like last week. Over the last 6 races the #99 has finished 21st or better in 4 of those races.
Other Options : Josh Williams ($6,700), Stephen Leicht ($5,900)
