Tottenham 0-2 Liverpool: Champions League final highlights and recap
By Adam Stocker
Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-0 in the Champions League Final on Saturday, June 1. Here are all the highlights from the match.
After losing the Champions League final last season, Liverpool found redemption on Saturday beating Tottenham 2-0 in Madrid. The Reds lead start to finish after being awarded a penalty 23 seconds into the game. Mohamed Salah converted the penalty for Liverpool giving them the early lead. That goal was all Liverpool needed as they went on to win their sixth Champions League title.
The Reds never looked back after taking the lead. Liverpool controlled most of the game, preventing Tottenham from building up play or getting any chances near the goal. Virgil van Dijk was brilliant at the back, shutting down Spurs for the first 60 minutes of the game. When Tottenham were finally able to create chances in the final 15 minutes, Liverpool keeper Alisson was excellent. After Loris Karius’s two errors last season gifted Real Madrid two goals, Liverpool went out and bout Alisson from Roma. The Brazilian keeper made several saves late in the game to keep Tottenham off the scoreboard.
Mauricio Pochettino decided to start striker Harry Kane despite Kane missing the past six weeks with an injury. The English striker was a complete non-factor in the game. Tottenham struggled to et Kane involved and he struggled to do anything with the limited touches he had.
Highlights:
Liverpool could not have asked for a better start. Only 23 seconds in, the Reds were awarded a penalty after a Moussa Sissoko handball inside of the box. Sissoko had his arm up directing traffic but Sadio Mane’s ball hit him in the armpit and deflected off of his arm.

With three minutes remaining Divock Origi sealed the victory for Liverpool.
The title was Liverpool’s sixth and first since 2005. After falling one point short of Manchester City in the Premier League, the Champions League title serves as an excellent consolation prize. In many ways, both City and Liverpool would trade titles this season as the title both clubs did not win has long eluded them.
The Reds will return most of their players next season as they look to capture their first Premier League title in almost 30 years. Tottenham could look very different next season as several players could exit the club during the summer.
