Tottenham have made a bigger offer for Giovani Lo Celso
As Tottenham prepared to face Liverpool in the Champions League final after remarkable wins over Manchester City and Ajax, they were just as diligent in preparing for next season’s Premier League and Champions League runs.
Though Tottenham Hotspur wrapped up another successful season in the Premier League and will qualify for the Champions League again next season, Mauricio Pochettino and Co. know that they must remain vigilant in order to shore up weaknesses on the roster.
Adding another creative difference-maker to the midfield to help Dele Alli would be a wise move for the London club, and it seems like they are eyeing former PSG and current Real Betis attacking midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.
Per a report from Gianluca DiMarzio, Tottenham have sent Betis an improved offer for Lo Celso, as they are now willing to spend 70 million pounds for the highly-regarded Argentinian.
Just 23 years of age, Lo Celso would be yet another established, but young, player in the Tottenham offense. Spurs also have Christian Eriksen in midfield with Alli and the likes of Lucas Moura and Son Heung-Min capable of making things happen as goal-scoring threats, but Lo Celso would bring an additional level of creative and technical class to the table.
This should be a summer of changes for Tottenham as they look to be proactive. This year’s surprising run to the Champions League final has been impressive, and Tottenham have withstood an injury to Harry Kane to remain strong domestically. But in order to keep up with the rest of the Premier League – Manchester United will surely have a huge offseason after a horrific 2018-2019 campaign – signing true star players like Lo Celso will be imperative.
A 70 million-pound fee for Lo Celso seems like a fair piece of business for both sides, and it will be interesting to see how Betis feel about this deal after stealing the talented midfielder away from PSG. If the deal goes through and nobody else outbids Tottenham, this could be the second summer in which Spurs grab a playmaker that Ligue 1’s top club didn’t value appropriately.
Lo Celso impressed greatly in the Europa League for Betis, scoring five goals in just six games while wreaking havoc on defenses with his skillful dribbling. There’s a huge amount of upside in signing Lo Celso, and he could complement Eriksen particularly well.
