Liverpool won the Champions League and recorded 97 Premier League points in a title race for the ages, so it only makes sense for manager Jurgen Klopp to receive an extension that includes a well-earned raise.

Debating the best football manager in the world is no easy task, but Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp surely has to be near the top of the list. Though his team fell one point short of Manchester City, who defeated them 2-1 in their final head-to-head fixture, Liverpool did capture Champions League glory by trouncing Tottenham 2-0 in the final. This followed an epic second leg comeback against La Liga giants FC Barcelona.

Klopp, per The Guardian, will receive a contract extension as a reward for Liverpool’s phenomenal 2018-2019 campaign. He’s already signed through 2022, meaning he has three years left on the six-year contract he initially signed with the club.

Marca reports that Liverpool would like to tack on an extra year to Klopp’s current deal, raising his salary from 8 million to 11 million euros per season. It’d be money well-spent by Liverpool, as Klopp has helped create the club’s identity and has helped The Reds develop some of the best young players around. Liverpool also have among the world’s best players in Sadio Mane, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Ballon d’Or candidate Virgil van Dijk.

With smart signings, an ability to relate to any player, and a keen eye for youth talent, Klopp has written a new legacy at Liverpool after achieving great success in the Bundesliga at both Mainz and Borussia Dortmund. Under Klopp, Liverpool have restored their past glory, becoming a juggernaut in the Premier League and beyond. Therefore, paying Klopp more and keeping him for at least one more year was the wise, if not obvious, move for Liverpool’s upper brass to make.

It will be exciting to see what’s next for Klopp and The Reds.
