17. 2014-15 Golden State Warriors
The Warriors caught the NBA completely by surprise this season. Steve Kerr replaced Mark Jackson on the sidelines. Draymond Green replaced David Lee in the starting lineup. A somewhat plodding, isolation-focused offense became a freewheeling work of art and the shooting of Stephen Curry was unleashed. The result was a 67-win season (a 15-game improvement over the previous year) and an NBA that has been changed forever.
As they entered the playoffs the Warriors were battling the (absurd) conventional wisdom that a jump-shooting team couldn’t win a championship. Sixteen wins and 250 made 3-pointers later, the Warriors put that nonsense to bed once and for all. The Warriors dropped just three games in the first three rounds and survived a superhuman effort from LeBron James in the Finals to beat the Cavaliers 4-2 and lay the first brick of their dynasty.
