Danish attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen is reportedly looking for the next step in his career, so here are five possible landing spots for the Tottenham star.

Christian Eriksen played a key role in Tottenham’s charge to the Champions League Finals this past season, providing four assists and a pair of goals during his 11 appearances in the tournament. He was even better in the Premier League, leading Spurs with 12 assists as one of the league’s best chance creators.

Rumors of interest from other clubs began as soon as the Premier League campaign ended, and Eriksen has fueled rumblings of an impending summer departure. Eriksen has confirmed that he’s looking forward to a new challenge in his career and is willing to head to an even bigger club this transfer window.

Since Tottenham made it to the Champions League final, secured Champions League football next year head of clubs like Manchester United, and have a new stadium, there aren’t many clubs that qualify as being bigger than Spurs. La Liga giants Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are potentially interested in Eriksen, and they would indeed qualify as a step up for Eriksen.

Here are five possible landing spots for the attacking midfielder this summer, including two Premier League clubs looking to get back to title contention.

Neck and neck with Manchester United as one of the world’s richest football clubs, Real Madrid look ready to head back to the Champions League finals now that Zinedine Zidane is back in the manager’s chair. Real will have their work cut out for them after floundering in the most recent iteration of Europe’s top tournament, in addition to finishing just third in La Liga.

A busy transfer window awaits Madrid, and players as noteworthy as Kylian Mbappe have been linked to Real. Christian Eriksen himself has been mentioned frequently as a possible target for Los Blancos, especially if Florentino Perez is unable to secure Manchester United superstar Paul Pogba’s signature.

While Eriksen isn’t quite the player Pogba is, he has plenty of class on the ball in his own right. Eriksen isn’t a well-rounded midfielder who will take defenders on or snap into tackles, but he can provide an excellent final ball. Eriksen is one of the world’s deadliest players from set pieces, as he’s able to register an inch-perfect curler or set up a teammate with an inventive delivery.

Eriksen would come at a cheaper price than some of Real’s other targets, and he could be an ideal replacement for James Rodriguez. Though not as spectacular of a goal-scorer or dribbler as James, Eriksen is nearly as good at passing and hitting free kicks. Real desperately need players who can create chances, especially since they’ve added another potential 20-goal striker in Luka Jovic. For real, Eriksen could be a missing piece in the midfield.
