Honorable mentions
Death Stranding
Other than The Last of Us Part II, there are two other big exclusives who will also be missing in action. Death Stranding is Hideo Kojima’s (Metal Gear Solid series) next big game and it may be the most confusing, but amazing game ever made.
All jokes aside, the latest trailer, which was revealed last week, cleared up at least a little bit of the game, which was refreshing to watch. Prior to that, nobody had any idea what it was about. Plus, it also has a confirmed release date (Nov. 8, 2019). Instead of speculating, we’ll actually get to experience it for ourselves soon enough.
Seeing a bit more gameplay would’ve been nice, especially at this E3. However, knowing that we got an extensive look at it not too long ago is good enough, so it doesn’t hurt as much that it’s missing out.
Ghost of Tsushima
Ghost of Tsushima is another new IP we’re anxious to learn more about. Developed by Sucker Punch Productions (Sly Cooper series and Infamous series), it’s an action-adventure game set in an open world during the first Mongol invasion of Japan.
It’s a samurai game, but it looks like the first of its kind. The scenery is absolutely breath-taking and it’s interesting to see how the game is actually played. There seems to be a lot of strategy involved, which will force players to think about their next move.
A new 3D Donkey Kong adventure game
Yes, all the side-scrolling Donkey Kong platforming games are phenomenal, especially the most recent one, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Nobody seems to remember the just as great Donkey Kong 64, though.
That’s the only logical explanation, considering Nintendo hasn’t tried to make another game like this. It could be that Rare, who also developed this game, is no longer working with Nintendo. We’re sure there are other creative teams who are willing to try and make it, however.
Speaking more on the game, it had a ton of variety. Fun gameplay, puzzles, a number of interesting areas to explore, playable characters to choose from, and groovy music. Why wouldn’t someone want to do something like this all over again? At this point, even a remake would be nice.
Quite frankly, it’s also a bit unlikely. It hasn’t happened in almost 20 years and it might not ever happen. It would be a huge surprise most would love, that’s for sure.
The Elder Scrolls VI
The only reason why this game is an honorable mention is because Starfield is a fresh, new IP. That being said, we’re equally excited for the new entry in The Elder Scrolls series. Each time a new game comes out, it’s always bigger and better. To this day, people are still playing Skyrim because of its replay value and large world to explore.
But, with what’s being said about development on the sixth entry, it’s going to be the biggest, most ambitious one yet. In an interview with IGN, Howard states he wants the players to play this game for, at least, 10 years. Check out the statement below, thanks to Unilad:
"What that does, is let us know going into Elder Scrolls 6, this is a game we need to design for people to play for a decade at least. At least."
Playing a game for 10 years is a very long time, honestly. It’s not like gamers haven’t done it before, though. But, we think Bethesda means 10 years of content, which hasn’t really been done before with a game like this. Yes, people have played other games for this long, but are they always embarking on a new quest or are they just replaying the same map and mode over and over?
dark. Next. 10 games we want to see at E3 2019
If Bethesda is able to pull this off, it’ll be a ground-breaking achievement. Sadly, it’ll be years before we ever find out for ourselves.
