St. Louis newspaper jinx Blues by celebrating Stanley Cup ahead of Game 6
The St. Louis Blues have a chance to win the Stanley Cup in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final, but according the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, it’s already a done deal.
The St. Louis Blues are one win away from their first Stanley Cup in franchise history, and have the chance to clinch on home ice in Game 6 of the 2019 Stanley Cup Final against the Boston Bruins. However, the Blues not only have to overcome the pressure of a Stanley Cup-clinching game, but also an unintentional jinx.
Just mere hours before puck drop in the biggest game in Blues history, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch accidentally released content and advertising related to a Stanley Cup victory on the digital version of the publication.
The post included a letter by St. Louis Blues owner Tom Stillman, thanking Blues fans for their support loyalty and support all season long en route to the Stanley Cup. Also accidentally published was an Enterprise ad, congratulating the Blues on “winning the Stanley Cup” with a 2019 Stanley Cup champions Blues logo.
The posts were visible in the subscribers-only E-edition of the Post-Dispatch and were quickly removed. However, they couldn’t get it taken down fast enough and eventually hit social media for all to see.
This is without a doubt, the jinx to end all jinxes. They literally committed the ultimate pre-celebration sin of “planning the parade”, saying, “we look forward to celebrating with you as we parade the Cup down Market Street.” It does not get any worse than that.
As if the Blues weren’t already cursed enough after going over 50 years without a Stanley Cup, this was the last thing they needed just one win away from breaking that curse.
For their baffling mistake just hours before puck drop in Game 6, the Post-Dispatch admitted to their mistake on Twitter, hopefully reversing any bad karma their mistake might’ve brought.
No doubt that the St. Louis Post-Dispatch will be watching Game 6 even closer now with their mistake. If the Boston Bruins end up winning Game 6 Sunday night and eventually Game 7 on Wednesday, Blues fans know exactly who to blame. If the Blues can overcome a jinx of this magnitude, the whole concept of jinxes may as well be retired, because it does not get any more egregious than this.
