Why is Adam Driver at the 2019 Tonys?

Wondering why Adam Driver is at the 2019 Tonys? Don’t worry! We’ve got you covered.
With the 2019 Tony Awards kicking off on June 9, many are excited to see the stars of Broadway get together in the hopes of taking home one of the coveted trophies.
One of these stars is Adam Driver, who will attend the 2019 Tonys in the hopes of winning his first ever major award — no offense, Teen Choice and MTV Movie & TV Awards.
But why exactly is Driver at the 2019 Tonys?
Driver is nominated for Best Lead Actor, Play for his role in Burn This, a play in which multiple characters are driven to take a look at their lives based on the death of a loved one. The play focuses heavily on identity, specifically LGBTQ+ identity, and deserves every nomination it has in 2019.
That being said, I feel a little bit bad for Driver. An absolutely amazing actor, many don’t know him for anything other than his role as Kylo Ren in Star Wars. Ren, a whiny villain, is poorly written and turns a lot of Star Wars fans off, meaning that many believe this to be a problem with Driver. It doesn’t take long on the internet to find someone who blames Driver for Ren, when that is most definitely not the case.
To see the truth, however, all you have to do is take a look at his body of work as a whole, and you’re met with myriad fantastic performances across multiple platforms from everything to movies, television and, yes, even Broadway.
Hopefully, Driver continues to prove his naysayers wrong and take home the Tony for Best Lead Actor for Burn This, because nothing says “stop hating” more than a trophy.
