Wondering who votes on the Tony Awards? Don’t worry! We’ve got you covered.

The 2019 Tony Awards kick off on June 9 and will feature some of the best and brightest Broadway has to offer. From musicals to plays to actors, actresses and even stage managers, everyone who has a hand in the production and performance of the musicals we all know and love will be there in the hopes of winning or supporting other winners at this fantastic event.

But award shows can be tricky when it comes to voting.

We don’t see the voters, and we rarely get an insight into their decision-making process.

When those we want to win win, it’s hard to find who to praise. When those we want to win lose, it’s hard to find who to blame.

So who exactly votes for the Tony Awards?

The Tony Awards are voted on by members of the Broadway League and designated members of the American Theater Wing, as well as members of the governing boards of several guilds and groups within the theater industry.

While this is vague, it still feels a bit less shadowy than some of the other voting bodies for other major award ceremonies. After all, members of boards and governing bodies are a bit more identifiable than that of the Oscars or the Emmys. They also tend to be a bit more inclusive in terms of the types of performances that earn awards, because, it’s the Tonys, and Broadway tends to be extremely diverse when it comes to LGBTQ+ issues.
