The Kansas City Chiefs came up just one game short of the Super Bowl a year ago, and they will need to answer a few big questions if they want to snap their 50-year drought and appear in the big game.
Last season was a very good one to be a Kansas City Chiefs fan. The Chiefs turned the franchise over from steady Alex Smith to wiz kid Patrick Mahomes, and the offense became one of the most explosive in football.
Mahomes led Kansas City to a dozen wins in the regular season and home-field throughout the playoffs, but a big defensive breakdown in the AFC Championship Game saw the Chiefs’ season end one game short of a trip to the Super Bowl. The Chiefs haven’t been to the big game since defeating Minnesota way back in Super Bowl IV, so they are long overdue for a return to the NFL’s biggest stage.
The good news is that the foundation of a champion is in place, headlined by the excellent coach-quarterback duo of Andy Reid and Mahomes, meaning the Chiefs have a lot of the hard work done. There are still some valid questions for the Chiefs to address, however, if they want to get past the New England Patriots and claim AFC supremacy for the first time in half a century.
