The United States embarks on their World Cup title defense by taking on Thailand on Tuesday, June 11 at the Stade Auguste-Delaune in Reims, France. Here’s all the info you need before you watch.

Four years after capturing the World Cup in Canada, the United States will open Group F against Thailand in Reims. In a group that also includes Sweden and Chile, it is imperative for the USWNT to win big against a considerably weaker opponent.

That’s not to say the U.S. will underestimate any opponent at this World Cup in France. On the contrary, the Americans are well aware that the caliber of the women’s game has improved since 2015 and that upsets could happen.

“When you step into a team that, when I took over, was ranked No. 1 in the world, you realize that there is zero margin for error,” U.S. coach Jill Ellis, who was appointed manager in 2014, told reporters last month before the team traveled to France. “And you can either just kind of wallow in that or go, ‘Hell, this is part of the job, and this is what I want to do,’ and take that as a really exciting challenge.”

The Americans are led by captain Carli Lloyd, who will be playing in her fourth World Cup, and surrounded by talented teammates such as striker Alex Morgan, midfielders Megan Rapinoe and Julie Ertz and goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher.

The U.S. has played Thailand just once, posting a 9-0 win (with Lloyd scoring a hat trick) on Sept. 15, 2016 at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, Ohio in a friendly that came right after the Americans had been upset by Sweden in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Rio Olympics. While the United States, a three-time World Cup champion, has qualified for every edition of the tournament, this marks just the second appearance for Thailand, who qualified for the first time in 2015.

The United States, ranked No. 1 by FIFA coming into the tournament, won the World Cup four years ago after defeating Japan 5-2 in the final. Thailand, playing in their first World Cup, went 1-0-2 in the group stage and failed to advance to the knockout stage. Thailand are currently No. 34 in the FIFA rankings.
