Rich Paul says Anthony Davis won’t commit to the Celtics long term
As the Anthony Davis rumors continue to heat up, it seems as if one team has been taken off the table.
With the 2019 NBA Draft approaching, the Anthony Davis trade story has continued to heat up with new rumors and ideas on places that he could possibly go. Because Anthony Davis is this years’ prized trade target, it should come as no surprise that almost every team is interested in acquiring him. However, with the potential that he could only be a one-year rental, some teams may choose to shy away from potentially acquiring his services.
Although it once seemed as if the Boston Celtics might be an intriguing fit for Anthony Davis, his agent, Rich Paul, made it clear that Davis does not want to end up in Boston long term.
Rich Paul basically takes the opportunity here to warn the Celtics that they should not spend any of their best assets to acquire Davis because he simply will not sign a long-term deal with Boston. It is an interesting proposition since Davis has noted that he wanted to play on a team that has an opportunity to contend for a title and the Celtics are still clearly in the class in the East.
The Celtics could definitely be title contenders with Davis and Irving both being on the same team (if Irving chooses to re-sign). While the Celtics might be disappointed to hear this news, they could still potentially trade for him, and therefore have the entire season to sway him into signing a long term deal in Boston. Not only would trading for Davis be widely beneficial for the organization, but it could push Kyrie Irving to stay in Boston if they are able to finish the deal before free agency negotiations open up.
