DraftKings MLB Picks June 17: Berrios is money at home
We have a busy 12 game Monday for our DraftKings MLB tournaments tonight. Despite the lack of aces, there is a really strong middle tier. Not all pitchers have good matchups. Targeting the ones that do could be the key here.

Rain is likely in both Washington and Cincinnati. Right now, it doesn’t appear that arms will be safe in either place, and honestly, I have doubts as to whether either game plays. There is some rain in St Louis as well, but it should be sporadic enough that the game plays. At least there is no wind to worry about.
I didn’t get an article in yesterday. You can thank the Kinkaider Brewing Company in Broken Bow, Nebraska for that one. I did play light throughout the day and won a bit during the day because of a Twins stack.
These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. We have plenty of writers on here who give you relevant information no matter which site you play on, and we all attack the slate from different angles.

DraftKings MLB Pitcher Plays:
Top Tier:
Mike Soroka ($10,500): Soroka is not invincible like he was earlier in the season. We can live with that. However, there is still good strikeout potential. My issue here is that I don’t know if Soroka is worth more than anyone else on this slate. The Mets are a dangerous enough offense to cause some problems. Soroka dominated the Mets last year, but that was last year. The Mets are a different offense this year.
Jose Berrios ($10,300): Berrios continues to dominate at home. I am a little nervous with the Red Sox coming to town. but they are only hitting .242 with a homer and four runs in 62 at bats to go with 14 strikeouts. As with Soroka, this is not an ideal matchup, but I do trust Berrios at home. That and Berrios basically get a free win with Porcello on the mound.
Middle Tier:
Kenta Maeda ($9,000): Maeda’s career numbers against the Giants really aren’t very good. However, Maeda held them scoreless in five innings earlier this year. His 1.69 ERA at home has me willing to go after the Giants here. Maeda only struck out three Giants the first time around. He should increase that total here.
Mike Clevinger ($8,700): Clevinger was absolutely dominant in two starts this year before landing on the IL. Right now, Cleveland hasn’t hinted at an innings limit for Clevinger, but he only went 5.1 innings in his last rehab start. That said, Clevinger only went six innings in each of his first two starts and still racked up 71.5 DraftKings points. The Rangers are hitting just .133 in 45 at bats with 17 strikeouts against Clevinger. He almost looks underpriced here!
Mike Fiers ($7,700): The Orioles are just 3-23 against Fiers so far, but two of those hits are homers. Still, Baltimore is mostly a weak offense that strikes out a lot. We have seen many different things from Fiers this year, including an improbable no hitter. Home is where Fiers is at his best. Expect a strong performance for the price tonight.
Bargain Pitchers:
Tom Milone ($6,900): The whole opener thing is working well with Milone here. Milone hasn’t given up more than three runs or gone less than four innings in relief of the opener in six tries. He even did pretty well against the Twins last week! The Royals are not a powerful team, and htis is not a ballpark that helps hitters. Milone has a 2.94 ERA in three starts in Seattle this year. I expect a solid game here.
Felix Pena ($6,700): The price is right on Pena, and so is the matchup. The Jays are hitting .259 against Pena in a small sample size, but they have struck out nine times in just 27 at bats. Pena has had mixed results since being used after the opener. He still struggles with control, so that keeps Pena from having a truly great score. The strikeout upside is here tonight even if he did struggle a little against the Jays the first time around.
My picks: Berrios, Clevinger; Clevinger, Pena
DraftKings MLB Stack Options:
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Masahiro Tanaka:
No part of me wants to use Tanaka against the Rays. d’Arnaud, Austin Meadows, Tommy Pham, Kevin Kiermaier, and Mike Zunino have all homered against Tanaka before. I wouldn’t be shocked if any of them did it again. A seriously cheap Joey Wendle is 3-5 against Tanaka with a pair of RBI.
Los Angeles Angels vs. Edwin Jackson:
Jackson has a 10.22 ERA through six starts. He has also given up nine homers in those six starts. The Angels are going to tee off here. Trout and Ohtani are very dangerous fades tonight. I’m high on Kole Calhoun and Tommy LaStella as well. Oh, and if Justin Upton comes off the IL at just $3,900, he will be in all of my lineups.
Minnesota Twins vs. Rick Porcello:
Porcello has a dreadful 6.37 ERA on the road this year, and the Twins lead the majors in just about every offensive category. This looks like a mess for Porcello. The only issue here is that most of the Twins hitters are expensive. Max Kepler and Nelson Cruz look worth the money. So does Miguel Sano. Beyond that, it might be best to save some money with Jason Castro and Adrianza.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Tyler Beede:
Dodgers stacks have scarred me for life, but here I go again. Tyler Beede has a 8.06 ERA in six starts. This wont end well for Beede. Cody Bellinger and Max Muncy are my favorites here. Joc Pederson and Alex Verdugo look good as well. You could even throw Justin Turner or Austin Barnes out there. There is no wrong answer here.
Oakland Athletics vs. Andrew Cashner:
The A’s are hitting a robust .321 in 78 at bats against Cashner with six homers and 20 runs. That’s a lot! The A’s are a pretty affordable stack here. Matt Olson is the most expensive, and he should be. Olson is 3-5 with two homers and four RBI. Khris Davis is 6-20 with a homer and six RBI. Josh Phegley, Jurickson Profar, and Mark Canha have the other homers. Matt Chapman is 5-10 against Cashner in his career, so a homer may be coming soon.
DraftKings MLB daily notes:
The Nationals have slugged six homers against Jake Arrieta so far. Juan Soto is 3-6 with two of those homers and five RBI, so start there. Brian Dozier, Trea Turner, and Matt Adams have the others.
Patrick Corbin has failed to last more than five innings in any of his last three starts. His home numbers are good enough that I’m not for a stack here, but Scott Kingery, Hoskins, and Realmuto all look good. Righties have punished Corbin lately.
Zack Wheeler has been thumped at SunTrust Park. I want no part of this one. The Braves are hitting .345 with five homers and 14 runs in just 84 at bats. Freddie Freeman is 10-20 with two homers, six RBI, and a whopping 12 walks. Matt Joyce, Brian McCann, and Tyler Flower have all homered against Wheeler as well.
Elieser Hernandez wasn’t horrible against the Cardinals. That’s a real ringing endorsement, I know, but I’m not trying to talk you into using him. I’m just saying that he isn’t worth stacking against. Matt Carpenter has homered against Elieser Hernandez. I still find it hard to ignore Goldy at this price. Marcell Ozuna is worth a look too.
Yeah, I’m done with Mikolas. The Marlins thumped him in Miami last week. Garrett Cooper hit a grand slam in that game, so I definitely want him. Starlin Castro is super cheap and is batting cleanup. I like Granderson better leading off. If it’s Austin Dean, I’ll use him instead.
Jhoulys Chacin has been horrible on the road and is making his return from the IL against one of the most powerful teams around. The Padres strike out a lot, but the power is legit. Austin Hedges and Hunter Renfroe have homered off of Chacin so far. Manny Machado is hitting very well right now. His price is back up, but not so high that I wouldn’t use him.
Using Duffy feels like a trap. The Seattle offense is starting to hit again. Domingo Santana and Tim Beckham are the ones that stand out here. Kyle Seager punishes lefties, so he is worth a look too. Mac Williamson could be a very nice play for the price.
DraftKings MLB one-off plays:
I’m not a big fan of going after Yonny Chirinos tonight, but LeMahieu has a homer off of him and Luke Voit is 4-5 lifetime against Chirinos.
I honestly like both Wade Miley and Luis Castillo if this game plays. I may take a shot with Yasiel Puig and Yordan Alvarez, but that’s about it.

Randal Grichuk has two homers in just four at bats against Felix Pena. Rowdy Tellez homered off of him once in his two plate appearances.
I do like Lance Lynn, but he feels overpriced against Cleveland, especially when Clevinger is $800 cheaper. Jose Ramirez is a very strong play against Lynn, as is Lindor.
Rafael Devers is hot anyway, and he is the only Red Sox hitter to homer against Jose Berrios so far.
I do like Joey Lucchesi, but I make it a point not to use pitchers against Milwaukee. Lucchesi could be good enough that I don’t want a lot of exposure here. Ryan Braun and Lorenzo Cain are strong plays though. Moose hits lefties well enough to consider too.
If you’re going to go after Tom Milone, don’t mess around. You don’t want the cheap guys. Jorge Soler, Whit Merrifield, or Adalberto Mondesi are the guys you want to take a shot with. I wouldn’t go more than one in any lineup though. Milone has been money lately.
