Breaking down the latest clash between Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre ahead of WWE Stomping Grounds.

After much torment at Drew McIntyre’s hands, Roman Reigns will finally get his chance to tear him apart at the inaugural WWE Stomping Grounds pay-per-view.

Wait, haven’t we seen this before? We haven’t? Are you sure? For some reason, memories of Reigns pinning McIntyre clean at WrestleMania keep flooding back. McIntyre was bragging about “breaking The Shield” and challenged Reigns, but also condescendingly was telling him not to accept for the good of his family. But like, if Reigns could beat cancer he could certainly whoop McIntyre, and he did exactly that, pinning him following a spear in a match that was a little too long for how late into the card it was? No? Didn’t happen? Alright then.

Well, due to the “Wild Card Rule” vaporizing the last shred of logical storytelling WWE had left, Reigns and McIntyre have been feuding despite the former technically being on SmackDown, with the latter on Raw. Also not helping things: the fact that Shane McMahon hit a Coast-to-Coast on the spot where that last shred of logical storytelling was vaporized, and is currently dancing on it.

For reasons that truly do not make a lick of sense, McMahon is the wrestling overlord of all WWE and all the heels are lining up to work for him. McIntyre is no different, and was most recently seen helping McMahon pin Reigns at Super ShowDown, after delivering a fateful Claymore Kick.

Devious though the means were, McMahon did achieve his revenge on Reigns for Superman Punching his father. After everything Reigns has been through these last several months however, losing like that was surely enraging and embarrassing for him. He triumphantly returned to the ring, only to be made to look like a chump in it not too soon after.

There’s only one man to blame for his being roped into a match by McMahon and being humiliated in that match by McMahon: McIntyre. It’s time for Reigns to begin getting his revenge on the McMahon family, starting with McIntyre, the baddest McMahon flunkie of them all.

Will the titular “stomping grounds” become part of the yard that Reigns claims ownership of? Or, will they be part of Reigns’ face, a face that McIntyre is going to stomp horizontally with a Claymore Kick? Whichever is the case, certainly this match will resolve things between these two, leading to no further matches down the road for rather incoherent reasons.
