Bunny Shaw assists wonderfully for Jamaica’s first ever World Cup goal (Video)
Jamaica scored their first-ever Women’s World Cup goal in a Group C game against powerhouse Australia and it was superstar striker Bunny Shaw who set up Havana Solaun for the historic goal.
Though Jamaica lost 3-0 to Brazil and 5-0 to Italy in their first two 2019 Women’s World Cup games, the tournament debutantes worked hard in both games and had dangerous moments in attack.
The only thing that failed them on both defense and offense was consistency, and they have several talented players like 21-year-old captain Konya Plummer at center back.
Jamaica’s best player? Bunny Shaw, whose incredible goal-scoring during the qualifying games helped push the team to their first Women’s World Cup appearance.
Though Shaw didn’t grab Jamaica’s first goal, it was her through ball that set up the chance for Havana Solaun to take perfectly.

Although Solaun now plays her football in the Norwegian league, she is a familiar player to many football fans in the United States.
Solaun played for the Seattle Reign and Washington Spirit in the NWSL before moving to Norway in 2019, and the former Florida Gators standout is now known by many more across the world.
She’ll forever go down in the history books as Jamaica’s first World Cup scorer, and although she was brought in off the bench in this game, hopefully there will be many more goals for her.
Solaun showed so much quality by rounding the keeper and finishing accurately, as this was a more difficult chance than it looks.
Of course, praise also goes to Shaw, who threaded this pass like a No. 10. Shaw has worked incredibly hard this tournament to create chances for herself and others, and she is one of the best all-around strikers in the entire world.
While Shaw is mostly known for her goal-scoring, her ability to create opportunities shouldn’t go underrated, and this genius pass exemplifies her ability to make an impact in all phases of attacking play.
Australia led 2-0 thanks to two goals from Sam Kerr, who would later grab a hat-trick and show why she’s a living legend, but this was an important goal for Jamaica.
While they only scored one goal in this tournament and lost each game, they have several talented players and showed that they do belong on the international stage.
