DraftKings PGA: 2019 Travelers Championship Picks and Analysis

What a fun US Open last week! Pebble played easier than even the USGA could have imagined. The blowing wind and green speed were virtually nonexistent. Do not get me wrong, the course still challenged the best golfers in the world, but Big hitters and superb ball-strikers were able to tame the course. Gary Woodland (-13) outlasted the field to secure his first major championship. After taking a beating at Pebble, the PGA will move cross-country to TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.

River Highlands is no joke, sitting middle of the pack as far as difficulty last season. River Highlands will be a welcoming sight for the field compared to US Open Pebble. River Highlands is a Par-70 Pete Dye designed course playing around 6,900 yards. The bentgrass greens are small, fast, and require precise approaches – similar to Pebble. Look for the winner to be driving the ball long, straight, and attacking the pins with wedges. If you are the type of DFS player that stacks Friday/Saturday tee times, opt for the earliest tee times to take advantage of the soft greens before they firm up in the afternoons.

2019 Travelers Championship – Studs

Patrick Cantlay $11,300

Cantlay is overpriced this week. His superb play over the last month and his win at The Memorial has provided him with some extra notoriety. I cannot pass on Patrick this week though. His game is an excellent form, ranking in the top 5 in approach, opportunities gained, BOB gained, T2G gained, and DK points. I think you have to keep riding with Cantlay.

Bryson DeChambeau $9,200

I loved the way that Bryson was striking the ball at the US Open. The guy is a machine with his irons when his game is firing. Unfortunately his game has not been firing yet this year aside from the Middle East. We will see if he can get good vibes traveling East this week. The approach game was superb at the US Open, he will just have to put together the rest of his game if he wants to compete.

Marc Leishman $9,100

Leishman has a very good course history at this event, he is playing well, and his price is way too low for the caliber of player that he is. Yes, it may be the perfect storm for a missed cut, but I will ride Leishman again this week after a strong US Open. Leishman missed the cut in 2018 at TPC River Highlands, but finished T17, T9, T39 and T11 in the 4 previous years.

2019 Travelers Championship – Values

Andrew Putnam $7,600

I am an Andrew Putnam guy. He is always is under-priced and underappreciated on DraftKings. The guy is playing well. He ranks 6th in BOB and 3rd in DK scoring against the field. He is a great putter.

More from FanSided

He is just playing too well to be priced at 7600. Is he going to win this week? No. I am concerned that he has not played the course before. However, I feel really comfortable with a made cut and a top-40 finish.

Peter Malnati $6,900

I said it once before, Malnati seems like the nicest guy. And he has a hot hand right now. I am going to keep riding that superb form. He was 17th at The Memorial and 31st at the RBC Canadian. Malnati is known as a plus putter, but he is riding pure irons right now. He ranks 7th in the field in approaches gained. I am hoping that his irons stay hot this week.

Boo Weekley $6,200

This is my absurd punt play. I would not be surprised if Boo picks up some steam from the touts. If he showed up in my model, he probably popped in someone else’s. The price is too enticing for me. He is striking the ball pure (ranking 14th in approach gained and 20th T2G) and he has solid course form (20th in DK points gained at TPC River Highlands).
