Fantasy Football 2019: 5 Players Ready to Bounce Back
By Bill Pivetz
These five players are ready to bounce back in a big way for your fantasy football team this season.
Fantasy football has begun. Sites are opened for mock drafting and experts are already releasing their third draft of rankings. This is where the preparation begins. Finding out which players will succeed in new locations, which rookies will break out and which sophomores will slump.
This is also the time to find your bargain picks. Those players that the rest of your league mates aren’t high on. The five players listed below had poor 2018 seasons but are primed to bounce back and finish higher than their respective ADPs.
I listed two running backs, two wide receivers and a quarterback. All five have name value and have been fantasy assets in previous seasons. It’s important to not draft based on their name but what you think they can do on the field this season.

Here are the five players I think will rebound this season.
LeSean McCoy, BUF
I mentioned Frank Gore as a must-have backup. He always seems to find work. That will depend on if McCoy can stay healthy. He played in 14 games last season. McCoy’s played in all 16 games in just three seasons.
He rushed 161 times for 514 yards and three touchdowns last year. He is the 34th ranked running back, according to FantasyPros. With more teams using committees, the Bills are likely one of the teams not to go that route. McCoy will be the lead back and could finish inside the top 25.
A.J. Green, CIN
Green finished with six touchdowns and 694 yards in nine games. Green hasn’t been the healthiest wide receiver in the league, averaging just under 14 games per season.
Before landing on the IR, Green was the No. 6 receiver in fantasy football. With the hire of Zac Taylor, the Bengals offense will look a little more receiver friendly. Andy Dalton should eclipse 400 pass attempts, giving Green a boost in value.
Joe Flacco, DEN
I was hesitant to include Flacco on this list. Most leagues only use one quarterback and the position is fairly deep for backups. However, After the shortened season he had, Flacco finds himself with a new team and better weapons.
While the running games may be similar between Denver and Baltimore, Flacco’s pass catching options are better. He has Emmanuel Sanders, Courtland Sutton, DaeSean Hamilton and my breakout tight end Jeff Heuerman.
Flacco has been very healthy throughout his career. If he can make it through all 16 games, he’ll have over 3,500 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Leonard Fournette, JAX
After a great rookie season, Fournette played in just eight games last season. He finished with 133 carries, 439 yards and five touchdowns. Not that bad for a half-season’s work.
With Carlos Hyde and T.J. Yeldon on new teams, Fournette’s only competition is Alfred Blue. The addition of Nick Foles under center should improve the passing game, giving Fournette more successful rush attempts.
He’s ranked 14th among running backs. That’s a good spot if you’re looking for a solid RB2.
Sammy Watkins, KC
Watkins had a decent season in Kansas City, even though all eyes were on Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill. He recorded 40 catches for 519 yards and three touchdowns. With another year coming up with Mahomes, he could see more production.
Hill’s status with the team is a question mark as he deals with off-the-field issues. If the league or the Chiefs take any action, Watkins moves to the WR1 spot in a high-powered offense. Still just 26 years old, Watkins could bounce back in a big way this season.
Honorable Mention: Carson Wentz, PHI; Kenyan Drake, MIA
There are plenty of other players that qualify as bounce-back candidates. These five stood out to me based on their poor 2018 seasons and the potential to perform well this season. Because fantasy football owners like to draft based on the prior year’s stats, you can get most of these guys at a discount.
