Romelu Lukaku is open to leaving Manchester United
While Manchester United are focused on making sweeping upgrades to their defense, they could lose a few key attacking players this summer.
A regular standout for the Belgium national team, Romelu Lukaku isn’t as consistent for Manchester United but was still second on the team with 12 goals in the Premier League. Lukaku is a strong, technical player who comes up with critical goals, and he’s one of the world’s better strikers when in his element.
According to a report from ESPN.com’s Andrew Cesare Richardson, Lukaku is interested in leaving United if he’s able to join a team that would make him a focal point of their gameplan. Lukaku has been most strongly linked to Inter Milan, as the Serie A club have Antonio Conte in charge and could use a striker with Lukaku’s strength and technical class.
Lukaku received 2,130 Premier League minutes last season, per WhoScored.com, placing him eighth on the team. He could receive more playing time and more scoring opportunities elsewhere, and fans have noticed how much better Lukaku plays with the attacking talent on the Belgian national team.
The grass isn’t always greener elsewhere, but it does seem like Lukaku could do well with a “new challenge”. He could be a great fit in the Serie A, and it looks like Conte has Lukaku at the top of his list in terms of striker targets. Reports put United’s asking price for Lukaku at around 60 million pounds, and there are rumors that he’s already agreed to personal terms with Inter.
In the prime of his career at 26, Lukaku can be a prolific goal-scorer in the right situation. While he’s not itching to leave United, he is keeping his options open. If United do sell Lukaku to, say, Inter at the right price, it will be interesting to see who they target to play at forward with young star Marcus Rashford.
Paul Pogba, United’s top scorer and best player, has already said he’s open to leaving, but United have unsurprisingly set a massive asking price for the French midfielder with heavy interest from Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid.
