Sam Kerr is on fire again, scores four goals against Jamaica (Video)
Australia striker Sam Kerr is one of the best players on this planet, and she made a huge statement by scoring four goals in her final group stage game.
Sam Kerr had some sharp words for the critics after Australia’s 3-2, come-from-behind victory over Brazil, and she channeled that drive into a whopping four goals against Jamaica to lead the Matildas to a 4-1 win in their final group stage game of the 2019 Women’s World Cup.
Scoring a bevy of goals is what Kerr does. She scored 28 goals in 40 games for Sky Blue FC and 22 in 26 for the Chicago Red Stars in the NWSL. Kerr was named the league’s MVP in 2017 after breaking the single-season scoring record with 17. The 25-year-old led the league in goals again last season, bagging 16 for her new team.
Kerr showed off all of that world-class quality against Jamaica. Her first goal was a fabulous header from around the penalty box, as she looped the ball expertly over Jamaica’s keeper. Kerr’s second came off of an unmarked header in the box, and her third and fourth goals were opportunistic, “poacher’s” goals.

Simply on another level right now, Kerr is playing with a chip on her shoulder and is determined to lead Australia to World Cup glory. She has all the momentum in the world heading into the knockout stages, as she’s sealed six points for Australia as the second-placed team in an extremely difficult Group C.
Kerr now has five goals in three World Cup games and is tied with the United States’s Alex Morgan as a front-runner for the tournament’s “Golden Boot”. It’s a distinction Kerr is familiar with, just as she’s familiar with four-goal outbursts, having once set the record for most goals in an NWSL game with four.
Australia have huge expectations in this year’s World Cup, but with the intelligent Kerr at the top of her game as a ruthlessly efficient goal-scoring machine, they can make good on those expectations.
