WWE Stomping Grounds 2019: WWE Championship steel cage match preview
The WWE Championship is on the line when Kofi Kingston defends against Dolph Ziggler at Stomping Grounds inside a steel cage.
How many matches have Kofi Kingston and Dolph Ziggler had between them in the span of their careers? It doesn’t really matter does it? They always give us a good show. At Stomping Grounds it won’t be any different except for the looming structure that is a steel cage surrounding the ring.
The first thought that comes to mind about this steel cage match is how will the other members of New Day force their way in? The second thought is that this match has been built as a personal war so a cage match is the appropriate response, just don’t expect to see any color (blood) for safety reasons and for WWE to stay PG. But Kingston and Ziggler are both so good at what they do that they don’t need to gig to tell a good story in the ring.
Since Ziggler made a surprise return attack on Kingston the narrative has been one of resentment. Although his accolades speak for themselves, Ziggler still expels frustration with Kingston’s recent rise to the top. “It should’ve been me!” is the exclamation heard from Ziggler during his promos and he may have a point, but there’s no denying that Kingston deserves every bit of the success he’s currently riding as champion.
In any event it’ll be interesting to see where this rivalry goes after Stomping Grounds. WWE is already advertising Kingston vs. Ziggler for The Clash of Champions event in Charlotte, NC. Whether that means Ziggler will walk away with gold on June 23 remains to be seen.
Tune in to see what happens inside the steel structure when WWE Stomping Grounds streams live Sunday, June 23, at 7 ET/4 PT, exclusively on the award-winning WWE Network.
