England and Japan face each to decide who will finish top of Group D. The English currently top of the group ahead of Japan having beaten Scotland and Argentina in their other group games. It leaves the 2011 World Champions two points off Wednesday’s rivals meaning nothing less than a win will do if they wish to top the group and avoid a meeting with either the Netherlands or Canada in the next round. The Asian side overcame England in 2007 and most notable in the semi-finals four years ago. Their only defeat to the English was in the group stages of the 2011 tournament, a tournament they went on to win. England on the other hand, defeated Japan in their last meaningful matchup before the World Cup. The Three Lions put three goals past the Japanese on the way to the SheBelieves Cup back in March.
