The writing appears to be on the wall that Kyrie Irving is leaving the Celtics this summer, probably for the Nets. How’s that going to work?

All signs seem to be pointing to Kyrie Irving putting on a Brooklyn Nets uniform next season. The mercurial point guard is always one of the NBA’s best quotes so we fired up our time machine to follow him and his new team through next season and grab a few of the best pieces of word art.

When asked at Media Day whether the Nets had title aspirations for this season: Sure, baby, my kung fu is the best.”

When asked about Spencer Dinwiddie (October 2019): “He’s a righteous dude.”

When asked about his lengthy blog post on Medium arguing that Helen Mirren’s anti-vaccine initiative was actually a false-flag operation to detract from the more pressing conspiracy of mind-control through mass-fluoridation of public water systems:  “Look, look. Here it is. All I want to do is be able to have that open conversation. It was all an exploitation tactic. It literally spun the world — your guy’s world — it spun it into a frenzy and proved exactly what I thought it would do in terms of how all this works. It created a division, or, literally stand up there and let all these people threw tomatoes at me, or have somebody think I’m somehow a different intellectual person because I believe that the government puts fluoride in our water to increase the receptivity of our electromagnetic fields so that their mind-control drones have a greater range, and you believe that fluoride prevents tooth decay. It created exactly that.”

When asked (by The Atheltic’s Michael Scotto) about his lackluster pick-and-roll defense in key moments of a home loss to the 76ers: “You have no frame of reference here, Michael. You’re like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie and wants to know how it ends. Forget it, Michael, you’re out of your element.”

When asked about Joe Harris’ career-best 38-point explosion in a January win over the Knicks: “Who?”

When asked about Spencer Dinwiddie (February 2020): “I think that the most important thing that I strive to live by is extremely by truth and by consistently giving others the truth, without any judgement, without constraints, without anything extra except the understanding that I see you. So, yeah, Spence. I see you and sometimes you have to know how to be led, you know what I’m saying. Leadership is a two-way street.”

When asked about a reported locker room disagreement with coach Kenny Atkinson in late February: “I’m not here to tirade anybody. There comes a time where you mature as an individual, or you just don’t. Like, when he says he was coaching with the Knicks while I was still balling out in high school. That’s just years, man. Years is a flat circle. Time keeps on going.”

When asked about missing a potential game-winner in a mid-March road game against the Celtics: “Instead of just assuming something that’s been told to you — because I’ve been told a lot in terms of my history, and facts and particular facts, and it’s been completely false. I just wanna open up and have that conversation. Like do you really think this actually happened? Did I really miss that shot? I just wanna know. Because I don’t know either.”

When asked, after a disappointing first-round playoff loss, whether this season went the way he had expected it to: “I’ve often felt that dreams are answers to questions we haven’t yet figured out how to ask.”

When asked about Spencer Dinwiddie (May 2020): [blank stare, followed by a deep sigh]
