Fantasy Football – The Top 5 Quarterbacks To Avoid

What’s up ladies and gentlemen! We’re back with another early NFL article but this time we’ll be discussing the top five quarterbacks to avoid this upcoming season. We can’t have the good without the bad, right? When it comes to season long fantasy football there are a few quarterbacks you should avoid wasting time on researching and looking at during the draft. But with Daily Fantasy Football, some of these on the list may come in to play at one point. So lets dive in on this list and get to the side steppin’!

5. Derek Carr (Oakland Raiders)

I may hate the Oakland Raiders but I actually remain pretty optimistic about them and I was high on Derek Carr after his first NFL season. Except after his major injury in 2015 at the end of the season, questions have popped up on if he’s the Raiders franchise quarterback. I believe this is the do or die season for the Quarterback, especially with the struggles the team has endured. Jon Gruden came in on a massive deal that everyone questioned and he cleaned house while making some questionable (but memorable) quotes in his first season back as a head coach.

Derek Carr played all 16 games last season but finished with a record of 4 wins and 12 losses. He did almost have a completion percentage of 68, throwing 19 touchdowns with just 10 interceptions. Not that bad for what the Oakland Raiders had. Carr also averaged 253 yards per game. The one positive note for Carr and the Raiders, it’s the man they added at the wide receiver position.

Carr has the advantage of playing with Antonio Brown this year after Brown became one of social media’s biggest drama queen and got his way out of Pittsburgh. But that’s about the only real weapon Carr gets on offense. He has Doug Martin in the backfield but Jalen Richard will most likely take that role easily. Then to have on the opposite side of AB, the Raiders have Tyrell Williams. That’s it. That is all Derek Carr has, Antonio Brown.

DETROIT, MI – DECEMBER 16: Quarterback Detroit Lions Matthew Stafford /

Fantasy Football – The Top 5 Quarterbacks To Avoid (#4)

4. Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions)

This man was once hyped up due to the numbers that him and one of the best wide receivers, Calvin Johnson, used to put up. He has slowly faded in to the darkness though with the rest of the Detroit Lions. We used to be able to look forward to playing Stafford on a weekly basis or draft him as the main quarterback of the roster. Not anymore sadly and the trend will continue.

The Detroit Lions have been trying to figure it out but have been trashing every route that they have gone. They are giving Stafford the weapon choices of Danny Amendola, Kenny Golladay, and Brandon Powell. But the backfield will most likely be the option for Stafford this year as they host Kerryon Johnson, a top prospect for this season on most peoples wish lists.

In the 2018 season, Stafford put up 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions with a record of 6 wins and 10 losses. Stafford also averaged his third lowest yards averaged per game of his career, averaging just 236 yards. He also completed 66% of the throws he made per game. Stafford held a quarterback rating of 51% also, leaving him on the bottom end of the quarterback list. It’ll be the same spot he kicks off this season with also.

The Detroit Lions head in to the 2019 season with the 17th most difficult schedule where their opponents have a combined win average of .496. Stafford will start his season in Arizona and then head to Los Angeles for the Chargers before starting a four game span of facing playoff teams. In doing so, Stafford will have most likely have a slow and losing start to his 2019 NFL Campaign once again.

3. Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens)

I think more people were excited to see Joe Flacco depart the Baltimore Ravens than for Lamar Jackson taking over the reigns. When the Ravens drafted Jackson, it was clear that he would soon become the franchise quarterback,  some of us expected it soon and some didn’t expect it to happen so quickly. But here we are discussing the young kid as a quarterback to avoid even with him being versatile. You shouldn’t expect big things from Jackson this season and you shouldn’t waste a draft pick on him either.

Lamar Jackson started seven games for the Baltimore Ravens last season, finishing with a record of 6 wins and 1 loss. He held a completion rating of 58% while throwing for 6 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. He averaged 78 yards per game. He also held a quarterback rating of 48%. With such a small sample size, something we laugh at here, we honestly have nothing to go off for the 2019 season besides the roster they surround Lamar Jackson with.

The Ravens have put in a Superbowl caliber running-back with Mark Ingram II in the back field as a great short yardage option for Jackson. As for his receivers, the Ravens are giving him Willie Snead IV, Marquise Brown, and as a third option, Seth Roberts or even Chris Moore.

We don’t know exactly what type of back Mark Ingram will be as he was splitting carries with Alvin Kamara in New Orleans and now the entire work load will fall on his shoulders. Can that actually be enough for Lamar Jackson to take some pressure off of him and allow him to be a passer, not a scrambler? With no true receiver threat, Lamar Jackson may be in more danger if his offensive line doesn’t hold up either.

2. Mitchell Trubisky (Chicago Bears)

What does it mean for a quarterback who has an amazing defense on his side? It means you can get by while being mediocre and not having to put up the same work as others. Am I saying Trubisky is lazy? No, he just has less work to do and can still get by unnoticed. Can he just skate by again or will he have to match the Bears defense in his third season?

Trubisky was able to rock an 11-3 record in his sophomore year after starting 12 games in the 2017 season where he won just four and lost eight of them. Trubisky was able to put up 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while averaging 230 yards per game. A big improvement over his rookie campaign. Trubisky also had a quarterback rating of 95% while completing 66% of his throws.

We already know how dangerous the Chicago Bears defense is and what they are capable of doing. But now lets look at the offense side of things and who will be backing up Mitchell Trubisky. Out of the backfield, Tarik Cohen will head the pack and could be a nice dink and dump option for Trubisky. Allen Robinson and Taylor Gabriel will lead the receiving core while Cordarrelle Patterson will be the third option for the young quarterback.

Another hurdle for the Chicago Bears is their 2019 schedule. The Bears will have the fifth most difficult schedule where their opponents average a winning percentage of .520. Mitchell Trubisky and the Chicago Bears have a easier kickoff to their season but in the middle of the season, plus at the end of the season, they face some tougher opponents. It’ll depend on how they kick off their season and if Trubisky can keep the momentum rolling with their defense, they may be alright closing out the season.

ARLINGTON, TX – AUGUST 26: Dak Prescott #4 of the Dallas Cowboys stands on the sidelines in the first quarter od a preseason football game against the Arizona Cardinals at AT&T Stadium on August 26, 2018 in Arlington, Texas. (Photo by Richard Rodriguez/Getty Images) /

Fantasy Football – The Top 5 Quarterbacks To Avoid (#1)

1. Dak Prescott (Dallas Cowboys)

Do I feel 100% confident on avoiding Dak Prescott this season? Most of me says yes but there is always that small part of me that says play Prescott. He has yet to have a true bad year and has kept consistent for his entire career. He also has one of the top running-backs relieving the pressure for him. But there comes a point where you realize his receiving core may be on the down side.

Prescott put up some nice numbers last season with 22 touchdowns and 8 interceptions while holding a record of 10 wins and 6 losses. He was also able to have a career high in yards per game with 242 yards. Prescott held a quarterback rating of 58% and completed 67% of the passes he had thrown. The only time Prescott hit the sophomore slump last season was in the win and loss column where the Cowboys went 9 and 7, which really isn’t that bad.

We already know what Ezekiel Elliott brings to the table which helps out Prescott tremendously. As for the receiving core, Prescott gets Randall Cobb, Michael Gallup, and Amari Cooper. But with Cooper, he is demanding a bigger pay day and things may not go his way leading to some friction with the team. While Prescott has the weapons for his receivers,  can he get it down once again in the NFC East division.

The final point to cover is that the Dallas Cowboys have the 14th most difficult schedule in the NFL. Their opponents for the season hold an average win rating of .504. While Prescott has the stats from previous seasons to back up his worth, I don’t think the Cowboys will be in the place that gives Prescott a winning outcome for the 2019 season.
