Mike Conley, the last “Core Four” member remaining on the Grizzlies, was dealt to the Jazz on Tuesday. Perhaps sensing an opening with the Warriors injuries, Utah met the asking price of two first-round picks, plus included Grayson Allen, the 21st selection in the 2018 draft.

For the Jazz, Conley should provide an upgrade over Ricky Rubio and alleviate the scoring burden on Donovan Mitchell as they attempt to progress further in the postseason. For the Grizzlies, they got assets with the 23rd pick in Thursday’s draft and a valuable reverse-protected 2020 pick. Besides Allen, they received competent veterans (Jae Crowder and Kyle Korver) with team-friendly expiring contracts that could possibly be flipped during the season. In addition, they opened up considerable salary cap flexibility in the future and a massive traded-player exception.

On a new episode of Fastbreak Breakfast, we breakdown the multiple avenues for success that the Conely trade has given Memphis and highlight how with a little bit of luck with the second pick (or 23rd pick!) the Grizzlies could be as well set up for future success as any team in the NBA.

Also covered:

  • Which teams trying to clear cap room may come calling to utilize Memphis’ traded player exception?
  • How good can a Conley and Mitchell backcourt be? Where do the Jazz rank in the Western Conference now?
  • Could Al Horford leaving Boston be a hidden blessing for the Celtics?
